WOCHE: It's great that you come to Graz. Is it your first visit to Graz?

AK: "Yes, and I am very excited to see your town. The last time I was in Austria was five years ago at an exhibition in Vienna."

WOCHE: At the age of 22 you put an end to your career back in 2003. Did you ever consider a comeback?

AK: "Sometimes I think about it but unfortunately, my body doesn't allow me to be on the court and practice for five hours each and every day which would be necessary to play on a professional level. It's possible to practice on a regular basis but not so much."

WOCHE: You were the first russian tennis player who made it to the headlines. Are you proud of that?

AK: "I am not the only one who should be praised for the fact that Tennis is now so important in Russia. I am proud of the fact that I am now leading a life which probably wouldn't have been possible in any other way except with my career. If I was a role model for other people, that makes me happy as well."

WOCHE: You're considered to be one of the most beautiful woman of the world. Who do you think is the most beautiful one?

AK: "Oh, that's really a tough question because there are so many beautiful women. It always depends on the definition of beauty, how you want to describe beauty."

WOCHE: There are photographers and reporters whereever you are. How much time do you have for yourself and those you love?

AK: "Even if people don't believe it: I lead a normal and calm life in Miami. I arrange my work in a way that I always have enough time for me and my family. That's very important to me."

WOCHE: How often do you visit your home country Russia?

AK: "I visit my family once or twice a year. By the way: I live in America but I am still a russian citizen."

WOCHE: Up to this day, how many marriage proposals...?

AK: "Honestly, too many to count them..."

WOCHE: Schön, dass Sie nach Graz kommen. Ist es Ihr erster Besuch in dieser Stadt?

Kournikova: "Ja, und ich bin auch schon ganz gespannt auf eure Stadt. Das letzte Mal in Österreich war ich vor fünf Jahren bei einer Exhibition in Wien. Da habe ich neben dem Opernhaus gespielt."

Sie beendeten 2003 im Alter von 22 Jahren Ihre Karriere auf der WTA-Tour. Haben Sie eigentlich jemals an ein Comeback gedacht?

AK: "Ich denke manchmal daran, aber leider lässt es mein Körper einfach nicht mehr zu, fünf Stunden täglich auf dem Platz zu stehen und zu trainieren, was für Profitennis notwendig wäre. Es ist möglich, regelmäßig zu trainieren, aber nicht in diesem Umfang."

Sie waren die erste russische Tennisspielerin, die für Schlagzeilen sorgte. Sind Sie stolz darauf?

AK: "Es ist nicht allein mein Verdienst, dass der Tennissport in Russland solch hohen Stellenwert bekommen hat. Ich bin stolz darauf, dass ich mir durch meine Karriere ein Leben eröffnet habe, das anders vermutlich nicht möglich gewesen wäre. Wenn ich Vorbild für andere war, macht mich das aber schon auch glücklich."

Sie zählen zu den schönsten Frauen der Welt. Wer ist für Sie die Schönste?

AK: "Oh, das ist wirklich eine schwere Frage, weil es so viele schöne Frauen gibt. Es kommt immer auf die Definition an, wie man Schönheit beschreiben will."

Wo immer Sie sind, sind auch Fotografen und Reporter. Wie oft haben Sie Zeit für sich selbst und Ihre Liebsten?

AK: "Auch wenn man es vielleicht nicht glaubt: Ich führe ein normales und ruhiges Leben in Miami. Ich teile mir meine Arbeit exakt so ein, dass ich immer genug Zeit für mich und meine Familie habe. Darauf lege ich besonders viel Wert, das ist mir wichtig."

Wie oft sind Sie in Ihrer Heimat Russland?

AK: "Ein- oder zweimal im Jahr besuche ich meine Familie. Übrigens: Ich lebe in Amerika, bin aber noch immer russische Staatsbürgerin."

Wie viele Heiratsanträge haben Sie bisher bekommen?

AK: "Ehrlich gesagt zu viele, um sie zu zählen..."
