Italian Open 1997, Rome
2nd Round

Anna Kournikova beaten by Amanda Coetzer
2:6, 6:4, 1:6

May 7, 1997

Q : What was the problem with you? Lack of experience or were you just tired?
A : I was not tired. I think I played very well. She did not make mistakes. I should have played differently.

Q : What had to be different?
A : I don’t know. Maybe I should have been more patient. I think I did everything I could to win and then at the end of the second set I had problems with my calf. It was hard for me to get points.

Q : What did you learn from this tournament?
A : I’m still playing doubles. I can learn other things from this tournament. It was a tough draw. I played a seed in the second round. It’s easy to have seeds in the first rounds in a 56 draw.

Q : Is there anything about yourself that we don’t know and that you would like to tell us?
A : You’ve asked me everything !

Q : What about Rome, then?
A : I love Rome because it’s old and beautiful. I like Milan too. Italy is my favourite country.
