The worst part of Anna's profession is when she gets injured - and unfortunately Anna had numerous injuries during her professional career - the worst ones in 2001 and of course 2003!

June 2004 (Hamilton exhibition)
chronic back injury
- still no confirmed comeback date at all
- she wants to play World Team Tennis in SINGLES to test her back
 
June 2003 (Birmingham)
chronic back injury
- supposed to come back at Birmingham, Anna was there but announced Withdrawal on June 9
- withdrew from Eastbourne, WIMBLEDON and in the end - the rest of 2003
- Anna hinted comeback in March 2004 at Pattaya (Thailand) in November 2003

May 2003 (Sea Island)
left thigh injury
- pain during Quarterfinal on May 9
- Withdrawal after QF-win (6-3, 6-3) before her Semifinal-match vs Maria Sharapova
- comeback in Charlottesville on May 13 but still injured
- WITHDREW FROM ROLAND GARROS & Birmingham due to this injury
 
April 2003 (Charleston)
left adductor strain
- suffered at 4-4 1st set vs Martinez, Anna retired at 1-1 in 2nd set
- comeback on May 7 at Sea Island, GA, USA (ITF-$25.000-Challenger)
 
January 2003 (Melbourne, Australian Open)
back sprain (sacroiliac)
- suffered during Australian Open 2003
- withdrew from Toray Pan Pacific Open (Tokyo) on friday (January 24)
- comeback on March 20 in Miami (Nasdaq-100 Open) vs Dinara Safina
 
October 2002 (Moscow)
partial tear of anterior ligament in left ankle
- suffered at the end of 2nd set of Doubles QF vs Dokic/Petrova on October 2, 2002
- retired from match and Doubles competition almost immediately
- after X-ray on October 3 withdrew from Singles as well
- a few days later: Anna withdrew from Filderstadt, Zurich and Luxembourg > END OF 2002 SEASON FOR ANNA...
 
July/August 2002 (Stanford/San Diego/Montreal)
abdominal strain (strapped left thigh)
- during practise before Singles and Doubles Quarterfinal in Stanford
- played Singles and Doubles matches but had to withdraw from Doubles semifinal on July 27
- she wore patch on belly in San Diego and Montreal and also strapped her left thigh
 
May 2002 (Rome/Strasbourg)
strained right thigh
- during 3rd Round match vs Ruano-Pascual at Rome
- injury also affected her play one week after in Strasbourg where she played with a completely taped right thigh straight from the beginning

May 2002 (Warsaw)
cramps due to dehydration
- Anna had cramps in training and during 1st Round match vs Kuznetsova it got worse and despite medical treatment several times she had to retire at 2-5 in the 3rd set for the first time in her professional career

February 2002 (Acapulco)
Neck injury
- at start of 2nd set at Semifinal vs Srebotnik Anna hurt her back
- it wasn't such a serious injury obviously because she could play again the following week in Indian Wells

February-September 2001
stress fracture in left foot / SURGERY
- after a training session after the Open Gaz de France (early February) her foot swell up
- injury got worse and required surgery in Heidelberg's (Germany) ATOS-clinic (5mm screw put in her foot for stabilization) in May
- 3 weeks of rehabilitation at Hubertus Clinic, Bad Wiessee in Bavaria (Germany)
- practised with Martina Hingis at Saddlebrock (Florida) in July
- tried comeback at San Diego end of July but injury setback
- practised at Bad Ragaz (Switzerland) with Martina Hingis before her comeback at Leipzig (Germany) on September 27

May 2000 (Berlin)
damaged ligaments in left ankle
- suffered in Berlin-1st Round-match vs Leon Garcia on May 10
- Anna missed Rome and came back at Roland Garros on May 31 (injury still affected her play at Wimbledon)

February 2000 (Mexico)
torn muscular fibre in right hand
- at Doubles-semifinal-match at Doubles Exhibition in Mexico City
- no real injury time-out
- she played Scottsdale a few days later in February 2000

August-October 1999
stress fracture in right foot
- after San Diego-defeat vs Coetzer on August 4
- came back at October 26 in Linz (AUT) where she defeated Cara Black
