June 21 – More injury woes for Kournikova
Anna Kournikova has returned to a clinic in Germany to seek help for her troublesome foot injury, which has kept her out of the game since February.
The popular Russian, who most recently was forced to pull out of Wimbledon, suffered a stress fracture in her left foot nearly four months ago.
According to German newspaper Bild, the 19-year-old originally had surgery to insert a 5mm screw into her foot to hold the bones in place. She then remained at the Hubertus Clinic in Bavaria for three weeks of rehabilitation.
However, her recovery has been slower than expected and she has since returned to the clinic for further examinations.
"Anna did everything without complaining," said the clinic's Dr. Hoerterer. "She's really natural and got on well with everyone. It (the rehab) was simply too much and Anna had a relapse."
