Enrique-Interview with BLICK (SUI)

LONDON - He has to know that. When it comes to relationships, Latin Lover Enrique Iglesias (32) is an expert. At least, he and Ex-Tennis-Vamp Anna Kournikova (26) are a couple. And he knows the women from Switzerland.

BLICK: How do you like to be talked to? Enrique or Mr. Iglesias?
EI: "Enrique. Definitely."

BLICK: Enrique, you have a concert in Zurich on October 30th. How's your knowledge about Switzerland?
EI: "I know Switzerland quite well. I had a girlfriend from Switzerland once. She left me."

BLICK: Oh. Why?
EI: "I don't know. She never told me. As a kid, I was skiing and snowboarding in Switzerland quite often. You have the most beautiful mountains. And the most multi-cultural audience. The fact that you unite so many cultures makes you very open-minded and international."

BLICK: How do you like the women of Switzerland?
EI: "They're beautiful, sincere and open-minded."

BLICK: You've been together with the former tennisstar and model Anna Kournikova (26) for five years. Reportedly, it's over right now.
EI: That's absolutely bullshit / crap. We're still a couple. I often get misquoted."

BLICK: Your relationship advice?
EI: (laughing archly) "Having a tough argumentations / verbal fighting each month."

BLICK: Are you jealous?
EI: "No. But that doesn't mean that I don't care if somebody gives Anna the come-on (from dictionary). If that happens, I distract myself / turn my focus on other things."

BLICK: How do you do that?
EI: "With music. And I write songs."

BLICK: You've been working on your new album "Insomniac" for three years. Why did it take so long?
EI: "I am a maniac when it comes to songwriting and the production of my songs. I needed that much time and sometimes it was very hard. I've been working in the nights and have slept during the days."

BLICK: "Insomniac" means sleeplessness. Do you have sleepless nights?
EI: Yes, I had and still have sleeping problems. I was hyperactive as a kid. Nowadays I use the sleeplessness to make music."

BLICK: Your songs "Do you know" and "Tired To Being Sorry" are always playing on the radio stations. What's the reason for the big success of this album?
EI: "It's pretty simple. I started this project with a lot of seriousness / earnest. I wanted to mix a respectable repertoire with influences like Hip-Hop and electronic beats. After that, I chose those songs I really liked out of the 40 songs that I wrote. It's an honest album. Full of my heart and soul."

BLICK: Who listens to your songs first? Anna or your father Julio?
EI: "None. My producer and my record company. The people that are very close to me listen to the songs by chance, when I play them at home."

BLICK: Your mole in the face is gone. Why?
EI: "It was never a real mole. It was just a dummy."

LONDON – Er muss es wissen. In Sachen Beziehungen ist Latin Lover Enrique Iglesias (32) ein Experte. Immerhin ist er mit Ex-Tennis-Vamp Anna Kurnikova (26) zusammen. Und er kennt die Schweizerinnen.


BLICK: Wie möchten Sie angesprochen werden. Enrique oder Herr Iglesias?
Enrique Iglesias: "Unbedingt Enrique."

BLICK: Enrique, du gibst am 30. Oktober in Zürich ein Konzert. Wie gut kennst du die Schweiz?
EI: "Ich kenne die Schweiz sehr gut. Ich hatte einmal eine Schweizer Freundin. Sie hat mich verlassen."

BLICK: Ah, ja. Weshalb?
EI: "Das weiss ich selbst nicht, sie hat es mir nie gesagt. Ich war als Kind oft zum Skifahren und Snowboarden in der Schweiz. Ihr habt die schönsten Berge. Und das multikulturellste Publikum. Dass ihr so viele Kulturen vereint, macht euch sehr offen und international."

BLICK: Wie gefallen dir Schweizer Frauen?
EI:"Sie sind schön, aufgeschlossen und offen."

BLICK: Du warst fünf Jahre mit dem ehemaligen Tennis-Star und Model Anna Kurnikova (26) zusammen. Jetzt seid ihr ja getrennt, wie man lesen kann.
EI: "Das ist völliger Quatsch. Wir sind nach wie vor sehr glücklich miteinander. Ich werde gerne falsch zitiert."

BLICK: Dein Beziehungstipp?
EI: (Lacht verschmitzt) "Einmal im Monat so richtig streiten."

BLICK: Bist du eifersüchtig?
EI: "Nein. Das heisst aber nicht, dass ich gleichgültig bin oder es mir egal ist, wenn Anna angemacht wird. Dann lenke ich mich ab."

BLICK: Womit?
EI: "Mit Musik. Und ich schreibe Songs."

BLICK: Du hast drei Jahre lang an deinem neuen Album "Insomniac" geschrieben. Weshalb so lange?
EI: "Ich bin ein Maniac, wenn es ums Schreiben und Produzieren meiner Lieder geht. Ich brauchte diese Zeit, die war zum Teil sehr hart. Ich habe in der Nacht gearbeitet und am Tag geschlafen."

BLICK: "Insomniac" heisst schlaflos. Hast du schlaflose Nächte?
EI: "Ja, ich hatte und habe Schlafprobleme. Als Kind war ich hyperaktiv. Jetzt nutze ich die Schlaflosigkeit, um Musik zu machen."

BLICK: Deine Songs "Do You Know" und "Tired To Being Sorry" laufen in den Radios rauf und runter. Weshalb hat dein neues Album so eingeschlagen?
EI: "Es ist ganz einfach: Ich habe das Projekt mit viel Ernsthaftigkeit gestartet. Wollte ein respektables Repertoire mit Einflüssen wie Hip-Hop und Electronic Beats mischen. Irgendwann habe ich mir gesagt: Nimm dich selbst nicht zu ernst. Dann habe ich von den 40 neuen Songs, die ich geschrieben habe, diejenigen genommen, die mir wirklich gefallen. Es ist ein ehrliches Album. Voll mit meinem Herzen und meiner Seele."

BLICK: Wer hört deine Songs zuerst? Anna oder dein Vater Julio?
EI: "Weder noch. Mein Produzent und die Plattenfirma. Meine engsten Leute hören sie eher zufällig, wenn ich sie zu Hause laufen lasse."

BLICK: Dein Muttermal im Gesicht ist weg. Weshalb?
EI: "Das war gar nie echt, das war nur eine Attrappe."
