Lexington Photos & Infos, Report / Anna's Influence / new BILD report

More infos from the event: The event lasted about 2,5 hours (4:00pm to 6:30pm). The Singles match took about 1 hour. Anna had problems with her serve although she only committed 1 double fault during the whole event! Venus' serve was awesome and Anna rarely had a chance to do anything on return. "Akish" (who saw the event LIVE) said that she obviously has been practising since the World Team Tennis event in July 2004! She was quick and progressed since summer!

PERSONAL COMMENT: Great to hear from a fan who SAW IT LIVE that Anna obviously progressed and still seems fit enough to attempt a comeback! Hopefully she thinks that way, too.

Lexington Event: COMEBACK HINTED?!?!?!
First the results: Anna lost in her Singles match vs Venus 3:6, 2:6 (Venus' serve reached up to 127 mph!!!). Funny: Anna gave her racket to a fan behind her (in the 2nd set) so that he can try to return Venus' powerful serve - and he missed it!!!
Anna and Serena beat Venus/Schultz-McCarthy 6:3 in the Doubles event. What did Anna say afterwards??? Interesting things:
"Sorry I wasn't in the best physical shape...That was my first singles match in like six or seven months. But I hope you enjoyed it anyway. I haven't played much lately."
An article at kentucky.com states that Anna "is trying to work her way back on to the pro circuit after chronic back problems." Is THIS really true???

PERSONAL COMMENT: Oh I really really hope that Anna gives Pro Tennis another try! Hopefully we will read CLEARER STATEMENTS very very soon. Why doesn't she give an extra Press conference??? She should have time for that!

Lexington Event Overview
The Lexus Tennis Challenge benefiting the OWL Foundation takes place on November 21th!!! Here a rough overview of the scheduled events:
- Nov 20, 7:30pm: "Night OWL Party" in Bluegrass Ballroom at Lexington Civic Center
- Nov 21, 12:30pm - 2:30pm: Nike Go USTA Youth Tennis Clinic at Lexington Tennis Club
- Nov 21, 4:00pm: 2 exhibition matches (Anna vs Venus (!?!?!?!?!?!), Anna/Serena vs Venus/Schultz-McCarthy)
PERSONAL COMMENT: Well, a few weeks ago it was announced that Anna would face Serena instead of Venus! Well, we will see I think!

Lexington to come
The exhibition event in Lexington takes place in a few days (November 21st) and as announed, Anna will play Singles match vs Serena Williams and a Doubles match where she teams up with Serena. Both will face Brenda Schultz-McCarthy/Venus Williams! Lexington's Rupp Arena Website
PERSONAL COMMENT: The most important question in my opinion: Is it going to be a "normal" Singles match (like in Leon, Spain, vs Sanchez-Vicario on December 7, 2003)??? Competitive tennis or just a 1-set-match??? All I hope is that Anna CLEARLY SAYS WHAT HER FUTURE PLANS ARE - whether she announces her official retirement or wants to give it another try at the WTA Tour (hopefully)!
ANY CLEAR COMMENT IS BETTER THAN THE SITUATION WE HAVE SINCE ABOUT 1 YEAR! ANNA, DO YOUR REMAINING FANS THIS FAVOR!

WOW - this is what Marat Safin said after winning in Paris recently on French TV channel "France 2":
Q: What do you think of the success of the Russian girls?"
MS: "All of those Russians girls have to say thanks to Anna Kournikova...even if she did not win any tournaments she was the one who made the job for the other...she was the strongest...she is a great athlet and today thanks to what she did, there is a lot of russians which are playing great tennis today!" ...He added that she was "marvellous and very cool"!!!

Does Anna deserves a place in Hall of Fame??? / Lexington news
Does Anna deserves to be elected and enshrined by the International Hall Of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, once she officially retires???? PERSONAL COMMENT: I think there are pros and contras for Anna to become elected for the Hall of Fame:
PRO reasons:
- she reached 4 WTA Singles Finals (although she couldn't win one title
yet)
- she did win 16 WTA Doubles Titles, 2 of them were Grand Slam Doubles
Titles (Aussie Open 1999, 2002)
- she reached #8 in the Singles World Rankings
- she defeated many many former No.1 Players (Graf, Seles...)
- she popularized the sport of Tennis very very much (take a look at
all the young Russians right now...)
CONTRA reasons:
- she didn't win any WTA Singles Title, no Grand Slam Title
- her best ever WTA Tour Singles Ranking was 8th

PS: Take a look at the "Camera policy" (link above)...: I think that's a shame - as I was in Filderstadt, Leipzig, Warsaw and Strasbourg (2000-2002) I NEVER had problems to use my digicam's and even my Camcorder! Why these restrictions, US-guys???
