Anna puts Stevenson aside & PICS / vs Hopkins / injury news / Anna's words TO US / wnba.com / annaforever.DE & annaforever.INFO
Anna continues to play that way she has been playing at Stanford - AWESOME! 6:0,6:1 vs 30th ranked Alexandra Stevenson after just 47 minutes. Do you remember such a dominant result from Anna??? I am really really happy. And Anna is happy as well: "I think I returned unbelievably well today", "I think I just played perfectly", "...today I was 99 percent good"! This win was really really remarkabe, even more if you take into account Anna's abdominal strain she suffered last Friday during practise in Stanford - Anna said that she wasn't able to practise on neither Saturday nor Sunday and only 1 hour yesterday. GREAT EFFORT, ANNA! Reports: Signonsandiego.com | ocregister.com | Acura Classic | LA Times

PICS: official messageboard > Photos Exchange > Members Photos > "Acura Classic"-Thread

vs Hopkins: Anna faces "Lucky Loser" Jennifer Hopkins (lost in last round Quali) in the 2nd Round at the Acura Classic in San Diego. See the schedule: (Full today's schedule)

Stadium court - start: 10:00 am local

Sugiyama vs Hantuchova
Daniilidou vs Clijsters
Davenport vs Mikaelian
Kournikova vs Hopkins

I assume that Anna's match will start at approx. 2:30-3:30 p.m. local (23:30-0:30 a.m. CET)! Anna played once against Jennifer Hopkins - and WON - 6:2,6:4 at Ericsson Open (Miami), 2nd Round, 24.03.2000!

injury news: "Tratree" (member of wtaworld.com-Board) posted this - "Anna said the two injuries were related....'the left ab and left quad are connected underneath....I'm getting to be quite the medical expert these days' (she was in a really funny mood in the press conference). The ab strain didn't seem to bother her serve much. The leg strain had her jumping around a bit weird on her groundstrokes....like she didn't want to plant on it or something, but she was moving great up to the net and around the court. She really played a great match."
In fact THIS MATCH vs Stevenson must have been one of Anna's best matches ever - I would have loved to see it LIVE!

Anna's words TO US: A new JOURNAL-entry written by Anna herself is available! She confirms that she will play at Montreal (August 12-18, 2002) and how she loved it to be able to play at Wimbledon this year! Great!

wnba.com: Some WNBA players state their opinions about Anna, mostly positive! More

annaforever.DE & annaforever.INFO: Since yesterday annaforever.de RUNS on a new webhost - IS IT GOING FASTER, BETTER, MORE RELIABLE??? I still have to upload some folders, i.e.:

Anna plays at San Diego :-))  -  7:00 p.m. local TODAY / Monica withdrew / New Haven? / Shanghai / Article
Anna plays at San Diego TODAY - today's Acura Classic-schedule! This is her 1st Round-match vs Alexandra Stevenson whom she did beat both in the past:

Date Location Round Result
01.08.2000 San Diego 2nd 6:2,6:3-WIN
13.01.2000 Sydney QF 4:6,6:2,6:2-WIN

In my opinion: IF this abdominal strain Anna suffered last Friday in Stanford doesn't bother her anymore Anna has very good chances to score her 3rd win against Stevenson.

Monica withdrew: Think back to the Masters Series in Rome - Anna should face Venus Williams in the 2nd Round who had a bye in the 1st Round. Then Venus withdrew minutes before the match and suddenly Anna faced "Lucky Loser" (player who lost in Qualifying, plays if player withdraws) Lilia Osterloh - and Anna WON and advanced to the 3rd Round. THE SAME CAN HAPPEN in San Diego with the minor difference that Monica Seles (would have been Anna's opponent in 2nd Round) already withdrew and Anna hasn't won the 1st Round-match yet.

New Haven?: An article has been published saying that "Tournament director Anne Worcester has contacted representatives for both Seles and Kournikova to offer the players wild cards into the draw. Both players are reportedly considering competing at the Pilot Pen, but their participation depends upon their results at the Rogers AT&T Canada Cup, scheduled for August 12-18th in Montreal. Should either player make an early-round exit in Montreal it's likely they would enter the Pilot Pen as preparation for the US Open, however if either player advances deep into the Montreal draw it reduces the likelihood of a New Haven appearance."

Shanghai: Anna entered the Kiwi Open Shanghai - a Tier IV-tournament directly the week after the US Open (September 9-15, 2002) which surprises me a little bit. Anna never played a tournament straight after the US Open before and the field isn't very strong - Entry field

Article: Tim Sullivan wrote an article called "Beauty is as Beauty does, and Anna K. doesn't" for the San Diego Newspaper. Well, he obviously doesn't think that Anna is beautiful. Okay, this is his opinion, not mine. You can mail Tim Sullivan YOUR opinion as well.

Anna plays San Diego in Singles??? / Shriver about Anna / Ranking news / annaforever.INFO is coming
Will Anna be able to play the Acura Classic in San Diego this week???? We know she suffered a abdominal strain in practise before her match vs Venus Williams and after playing Singles and Doubles on Friday Anna was forced to withdraw from Saturday's Doubles Semifinal due to this injury!
One thing is clear already - ANNA WON'T PLAY DOUBLES AT SAN DIEGO and Anna also isn't scheduled to play her Singles 1st Round vs Alexandra Stevenson today - today's Acura Classic-schedule!
In 2 previous encounters against Stevenson Anna won both matches - Sydney, 13.01.00, QF, 4:6,6:2,6:2 and, irony, San Diego, 01.08.00, 2nd Round, 6:2,6:3! If Anna could secure a similar straight 2-set-win than back in 2000 it would be fantastic!

Shriver about Anna: Following Anna's 1st Round-exit at Wimbledon this year and the controversial-discussed BBC Interview (I am getting tired of hearing about this one again and again) Pam Shriver had this to say about Anna. She doesn't share my point of view but I didn't think she would.

Ranking News: Anna climbs up in Singles Ranking and is finally back in the Top50 :-))))) As of now Anna is ranked 47th in the world with 694 points. Despite her 2 wins in Doubles she remains 7th in Doubles with 2160 points! In the "Race to the Championships"-Rankings it's getting better also - 34th in Singles (641 points) and 7th in Doubles (1630 points)!

annaforever.INFO is coming: I announced a few weeks ago that annaforever.de is moving to a new provider. THIS IS ALREADY IN PROGRESS but before annaforever.DE will be available again annaforever.INFO will be there for you! In worst case the website might be down from August 1 - 3, 2002 but I doubt that this will happen. I will keep you informed. Later on, annaforever.INFO and annaforever.DE will be linked to the one and only Anna K Site - the Anna Kournikova Forever Site (AKFS)!

Anna withdrew due to abdominal strain / BOTW-pics / San Diego-Draw / "gold exempt" 03 / "Totally Anna" / 2003 calendar
OH NO! Anna is really injury-prone - I have no other explanation and this is more than frustrating ONCE again! Anna obviously suffered this strain during practise on friday already! OH NO!
Hopefully she will be able to play San Diego next week! more | BBC | ESPN

BOTW-pics: Once again THANX jojoseph for providing is with fresh pictures from the Bank of the West Classic. Way to view them: official Messageboard

San Diego-Draw: Anna faces Alexandra Stevenson in the 1st Round of the Acura Classic in San Diego! But in the 2nd Round she would meet Monica Seles already and this makes it a very unfavourable draw! Full Singles Draw

"Gold Exempt" 03: Anna was awarded with "gold exempt"-status for 2003 as well! Being Gold Exempt means that you have control over your schedule, determining in advance whether you want to be included, rather than waiting to see if you are ranked high enough. This list includes 20 names - sixteen who are included based on their rankings and four "wildcards" voted by the tournament directors. Of course they choose Kournikova!
One stipulation: You have to be Top Fifty as of when the US Open ends. But after Anna's recent results and good form in Stanford (unfortunately now this injury-setback) this shouldn't be a problem!

"Totally Anna": Watch 6 exclusive videos from foxsports! "Anna shows her true colors" features a controversal talk about Anna as well as unique pictures (sushi-buying, helicopter-flying) but they absolutely made up their story with mixed-up comments by Anna. The other videos you can only view if you sign up for a Trial-membership at real.com! Foxsports-Videos | "Anna shows her true colors"-Audio (1,6 MB)

2003 calendar: Anna's official 2003 calendar already can be ordered at jfturner.com! Inside there are breathtaking and absolutely outstanding pictures from her photoshooting at Mexico (Tamaulipas) she did in early March this year. Most of these pictures you might already know from current FHM-issues (France, United Kingdom, Singapore). These FHM-magazines also feature an interesting Interview with the newly crowned "Sexiest Woman in the World 2002", sweet Anna Kournikova.

Anna lost vs Venus / Doubles QF-win / Saturday schedule / more BOTW-pics / San Diego-Draw / Britney&Anna
Unfortunately the upset shouldn't happen once again - Anna lost vs Venus Williams, THE top player, for the third time in 2002 - 3:6,4:6! BUT: Anna had a few chances and was playing well overall! But Venus is Venus - really really hard to beat with all her power. Anna: "Obviously I can't overpower her"! Pictures to come

Doubles QF-win: Anna and Meghann continue to perform well in Doubles and they scored a comfortable 6:1,6:4-victory over Frazier/Spears! But NOW they face the No.1 seeded Doubles team (also ranked No.1) - Lisa Raymond / Rennae Stubbs! THIS is going to be THE ultimate test for Anna and Meghann, hopefully they can win! The last 2 times Anna was able to beat this top team - Aussie Open 02, SF, 6-7,6-1,6-0 with Martina & most recently at Wimbledon 2002, QF, 1-6,7-5,6-4 with Chanda!!!

Saturday schedule: Anna and Meghann are scheduled to play their Doubles semifinal on Court 1. See the schedule:

Court 1 - match play starts at 1:30 p.m. local

Clijsters vs Davenport
not before 3:30 pm
Raymond/Stubbs (1) vs Kournikova/Shaughnessy (3)
not before 9:00 pm
Husarova/Martinez vs Augustus/Rippner

So unfortunately in Germany nothing will be shown from the Doubles once again :-((((( The match will start not before 0:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (CET)

Anna beats Prakusya / Friday schedule / insight report / BOTW-pics
Obviously it wasn't such a dominant performance than against Smashnova in the 1st Round but in the end it was a win - Anna advanced to the Quarterfinal by beating Wynne Prakusya in the 2nd Round 7-5,6-4! Great Anna! Anna: "No matter what else happens, this is a great step forward" - RIGHT Anna! After months of frustrating 1st Round-defeats and changing your game in its basics NOW it seems to begin to pay off :-))) Go on working but I know you will!

Next up for Anna: Venus Williams - Anna never won against her but there is a time when it will happen! This is the 3rd time THIS year Anna will meet Venus. Previous matches: 5:7,0:6 at Antwerp (BEL), 2nd Round (February 13, 2002), 2:6,6:7 at Dubai (UAE), 2nd Round (February 20, 2002).

Friday schedule: Anna is scheduled to play twice today. See the schedule:

Stadium 1 - match play starts 12:00 noon local

not before 7:30 p.m.
Kournikova vs V.Williams
not before 9:00 p.m.
Kournikova/Shaughnessy vs Frazier/Spears

I doubt a little bit that this Doubles match will still be played as it is 9:00 p.m. at least! But we will see! Singles match will start at 4:30 a.m. CET and Doubles match at approx. 6:00-6:30 a.m. CET

insight report: reuters.com had an exclusive Interview with Anna where she talks about that she is SHY sometimes in the public, that she had to convince Harold Solomon also that she IS committed to Tennis and other very interesting things. A MUST-READ for any real fan! reuters.com | tennisreporters.net

Anna & Meghann won 1st Doubles / Today's schedule / BOTW-pics
After Justin Henin got injured in her 1st Singles match this was the logical outcome - Anna and Meghann didn't face Justin and Kim (they withdrew) but Sarah Taylor & Jill Craybas (Lucky Loser)! Anna did know Jill (Aussie Open 99, 1st Round) but I doubt that she knew much about Sarah Taylor. Anyway - Anna and Meghann performed well and scored an easy 6:4,6:0-win to advance to the 2nd Round in Doubles at Stanford. This match will be scheduled for Friday!

Today's schedule: Anna has to play her 2nd Round Singles match against Wynne Prakusya. See the schedule:

Stadium court 1 - match play starts 12:00 noon

Frazier / Spears vs Kremer / Tu
Raymond vs Irvin (not before 1:30 pm)
Kournikova vs Prakusya (not before 3:00 pm)

So match start is almost predictable but I think that it will be more 3:30-4:00 p.m. (0:30-1:00 a.m. CET tomorrow) until Anna can play her 2nd Singles match! GO ANNA!

BOTW-Pics: "Jojoseph" will provide you for sure with the latest pictures from Doubles he made (he also gave me permission to display his pics on annaforever.de :-))))))))). Watch out here: official Messageboard

Anna WON in 2 sets / Doubles today / BOTW-Pics
Great win Anna - 6:3,6:2 the score vs 18th ranked Smashnova which is really impressing in my opinion. From what "jojoseph" had to say we can be really really proud of Anna! She committed hardly any double fault, made few unforced errors and performed very well on the net. Here is how the match proceeded: 1st set: 1-0 to 4-0,4-1,5-1,5-2,5-3,6-3! 2nd set: 0-1,1-1,1-2 to 6-2! According to "jojoseph" it was "pure domination" which is really wonderful to read because he saw the match LIVE - lucky lucky guy!!! Next up for Anna: Wynne Prakusya from Indonesia - on Thursday!
Very good: Anna already gained 48 points :-)))
Interesting sidenote: Anna chew bubblegum during the match!!!!!! Honestly, I have never seen that so far but like "jojoseph" mentioned - if it helps her to stay focus then it's fine for me!
After the match Anna said: "Everything just really worked for me" and as stated on CNN text page 503 she also gave credit to coach Harold Solomon. MORE INTERVIEW-QUOTES

Doubles today: Anna and Meghann Shaughnessy have to play their 1st Round Doubles match today - schedule:

Stadium court 1 - match play starts 12:00 noon

Bedanova vs Panova
Dokic vs Martinez
Kournikova/Shaughnessy vs Clijsters/Henin

This will be a very very hard match for Anna and Meghann and especially because both have never teamed up in Doubles before! I assume the match will start at approx. 3:30-4:00 p.m. local (0:30-1:00 a.m. CET tomorrow)! Bad luck for us Europeans - Eurosport starts coverage just with the semis :-(((

Anna K vs Anna S / BOTW-Pics / PS / Montreal-WC
Anna K vs Anna S meet today in the 1st Round of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford. Match schedule:

Stadium court 2 - not before 7:30 p.m. local
Kournikova vs Smashnova

If I'm not totally wrong I think to know that Stanford-time is Pacific time which means CET -9 hours! So at about 4:30 a.m. CET the match starts but of course we won't be able to see it :-(((((( Hopefully the american Anna-Fans will provide us with lots of pictures :-)

Anna and Meghann don't play Doubles today according to the schedule so they'll most likely play tomorrow

BOTW-Pics: New training pictures have been taken from Anna in Stanford - absolutely beautiful. Way to access: official Messageboard

PS: According to "carling" Anna uses ZINC OXIDE to prevent getting sunburnt instead of normal sunscreen (see pictures mentioned above) - Well, I really don't know exactly.

Montreal-WC: Another wildcard has been given to Anna - this time for the prestigious canadian tournament in Montreal which starts on August 12, 2002 - 2 weeks prior to the US Open! Anna received this wildcard due to the fact that she is among this year's "gold exempt"-players!

Anna K vs Anna S / Doubles with Meghann / BOTW-Pics / Ranking News / Anna+Enrique
Anna will play Anna Smashnova in the opening round at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, California (Full Singles Draw). Anna played already against her and did manage to beat her on clay back at Hamburg 2000 but she lost this year against her in Auckland's semifinal-match! If she can win tomorrow she will play either Mikaelian (SUI) or a Qualifier in Round 2.

Doubles with Meghann: I thought Anna would be playing with Barbara Schett again!?!?!! Well, not in Stanford it seems as she is in the Doubles Main Draw together with Meghann Shaughnessy. Both never teamed up for Doubles before and it will be highly interesting to see how good they perform together!

BOTW-Pics: Thanx to Jojoseph we can already see training pictures from Anna in Stanford from the last few days. Way to access: official Messageboard -> Photos Exchange -> Members Photos -> "My Bank of the West Classic 2002 Pictures"-Thread! Anna put a lot of sun lotion in her face which I haven't seen so far :-)))

Yesterday she practised together with Conchita Martinez (thanx jojoseph)

Ranking News: This is really not the most encouraging part of news right now! Anna remains the 56th ranked player in the world with unchanged 619 points. In Doubles also no changes - 7th with 2070 points. In the "Race to the Championships"- Rankings Anna is now the 38th ranked player (565 points) in Singles and ranked 7th in Doubles (1540 points)! WINNING SINGLES-matches gets more and more important (of course it is ALWAYS important) - Anna last won a Singles match on Tuesday May 14, 2002 in the 2nd Round of the Italian Open in Rome - 3-set-win vs Lilia Osterloh.........

Anna+Enrique: Once again a new picture has been published which obviously shows Anna and Enrique (both from the back and not to be identified perfectly). The story by the dailystar ("ENRIQUE WINS ANNA'S HEART"-Headline): During last week Anna and Enrique arrived at his Miami-based music studio and Anna hang aroung with him there for a few hours and left when he recorded some new songs for his new album. Later on, Anna was spotted shopping in Miami!
Also comments reportedly by Enrique's Dad Julio came out: "There is someone he fancies but I don't dare say who...she is like a wild animal..."!

Really "great" comments but like many times before it is up to yourself whether you believe this or not!

Anna at Stanford so far / Leipzig-WC / Observer-article / SORRY / "Anna K" of Golf
Well, there aren't any oncourt-news so I thought it would be interesting for you to see how Anna's past performances at the Bank of the West Classic-Tournament in Stanford have been so far:

Date Round Opponent Score
29.07.00 SF Venus Williams 4-6,5-7
28.07.00 QF Sandrine Testud 6-3,6-2
27.07.00 3rd Martina Nejedly 6-1,6-0
25.07.00 2nd Anne Miller 6-1,6-2
30.07.99 QF Venus Williams 1-6,3-6
29.07.99 3rd Lisa Raymond 6-4,6-4
27.07.99 2nd Mirjana Lucic 6-4,6-2

As you can see 2002 will be Anna's 3rd time she plays at Stanford. She couldn't play in 1998 and 2001 due to injuries but she really has a good record there because she lost twice against the right now absolutely top player Venus Williams (unfortunately Anna could never beat her so far)! So I am really looking forward to Stanford, starting on July 22, 2002!

Leipzig-WC: Tournament officials of Leipzig (director: Henner Ziegfeld) apparently have offered a Wildcard to Anna for the Sparkassen Cup (Tier II) at Leipzig in late September. Article

Observer-article: "Underrated - Anna Kournikova" is the name of the small article which finally gives Anna credit for her being a top tennisplayer instead of all the other recent articles and comments by former great tennisplayers!

SORRY: I know that this is the longest period so far that I couldn't update annaforever.de! BUT: The reason that I can't update and maintain the site is really ridiculous but I am trying to solve the problems. AND: I am already moving annaforever.de to a new webhost so don't be afraid: annaforever.de will definitely continue to exist. From what I know now, I will be able to update the Site as of beginning of the upcoming week.

"Anna K" of Golf: CNN "World Sport" featured a report about 19-year-old Natalie Gulbis and compared her to Anna Kournikova but ALWAYS mentioned that Anna hasn't won a tournament yet and simply focused on the glamour and marketability! They also featured some shots of Anna's 2001 Calendar-shooting at Acapulco.
Well, at least Natalie admitted that Anna IS a top player and not just the world's best known and most earning tennisplayer.

Anna&Barbara reunited / Trip to Glory... / FHM Interview / Vote for Anna
It seems that Anna teams up with Barbara Schett once again. The Webmaster of barbara-schett.net was posting this info on the wtaworld Board! Well, I haven't found any official statements yet but it is possible. But Anna performed really great lately with Chanda Rubin and both played just 2 Tournaments so far and have a 4-2 record! We will see if Anna and Barbara will team up again in the upcoming hardcourt season.

Anna&Barbara so far:

Tournament success result
Sydney 00 QF vs Hingis/Pierce 6-7,1-6
Aussie Open 00 SF vs Raymond/Stubbs 4-6,6-7
Sydney 01 TITLE vs Raymond/Stubbs 6-2,7-5
Aussie Open 01 QF vs Williams/Williams 6-3,1-6,1-6

You see pretty quickly that Anna and Barbara performed really great at the 4 Tournaments both played together so far. They even won the title in Sydney 2001 which was really great. And both are also good friends so I would be happy if they would team up again!

Trip to Glory...: Take a look back to Anna's great performance at the Kremlin Cup 2000 in Moscow, her home town! It was her 3rd WTA Singles Final!

FHM Interview: Read the transcript from the Interview Anna gave to FHM when she was doing the "Sexiest Woman in the world 2002"-photoshooting! Did you know that she occasionally "spies" on what the posters write at the official Messageboard on her official website??? Anna did this Photoshooting down in Mexico after she lost her semifinal-match in Acapulco vs Srebotnik on March 1,2002.

Vote for Anna: Once again you can vote for Anna to be the "sexiest woman in sports"!

July 9, 2002
Sat1-"Blitz" / Anna & Enrique
The TV-magazine featured the SUN-story in a short report but they said nothing else than the SUN already did plus they showed significant parts of the Escape-video!

Anna & Enrique: More reports came out and right now I wanna give you the "RUMOURS-chronology":

general: "strings of dates" during last week/weekend at London / Anna originally accommodated at Conrad Hilton Hotel but many times at Enrique's hotel suite at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel

# Friday July 5: both arrived at Mayfair Club (West End) with separate taxis - canoodling "with his hands wandering in and out of her dress" (popdirt.com) and drinking champagne cocktails - pair spent night together or believed to do so at Four Seasons Hotel (1300 British Pounds a night, Enrique's suite)

# Saturday July 6: 2,5 hours at Stork Rooms Club on Regent Street - left at 1:45 a.m. to Four Seasons Hotel (thisislondon.co.uk) - "couple kept guests awake until 4 a.m.", uncountable complaints at reception, SCREAMS & MOANS, "I could hear Anna screaming and it sounded like cries of pleasure" - management knocked on door after 4 a.m. (thesun.co.uk)

# Sunday July 7: Enrique looked tired after night-action (bild.de) & Anna watched Enrique's performance at FM's Party in the Park from backstage after curtain - in front of this show: both in his changing room with locked door (bild.de) - after show: both left in silver mercedes to Park Lane hotel apartment at 6:00 p.m., stayed there for 3 hours - both left London in airplane from Heathrow airport, Anna tried to hide herself with white sheet

SO THIS IS IT - all the Shit, gossip, rumours which MIGHT be true to some extend but after reading through ALL this stuff (I HATE the british press) I have to say something:

Something for sure is true in all this stuff but I doubt that all these exaggerations contain much truth. Anna drinking many champagne cocktails the day before she has a Doubles Semifinal at a Grand Slam?????? I highly doubt this!

In general, there is NOTHING BAD IN IT if a 21-year-old beautiful young lady spends the night together with an attractive man! But of course this is Anna and my feelings get hurt! But that's MY problem and nothing I can blame her for IF anything is true.

So,

WHAT IS TRUE???:

True is that HE was in London since July 3 and she was there as well. TRUE is that she was watching his performance on Sunday at the Party in the Park backstage! But ALL THE REST is sth. for me/us to believe or not.

But as OCT_1 I also have the bad impression that there IS some truth in all this shit at all - is she making the RIGHT decisions???
And IF this is true - what will Harold say????

Last but not least Anna said THIS at the latest Berlei-Presentation at Eastbourne on June 14, 2002:

"That kiss in the video is what started all the rumours," she says. "There is absolutely no truth in them."

Anna, IF there IS TRUTH in it (and despite all the exaggerations) - you have your right for privacy, NO DOUBT - BUT:

DON'T LIE, ANNA - BETTER SAY "No comment"

WHY I AM PROVIDING ALL THESE RUMOUR-SHIT AT ALL??? - I have no master answer - I kind of think that it helps me to get through all this shit ALTHOUGH I know that this simply can't be true!!!! Sounds kind of weird, I know :-((((((((((((((((

Ranking news / break / Trip to Glory...
The new Rankings are out and it was clear that Anna's 1st Round-defeat wouldn't help her to move up - she lost 1 position and is now ranked 56th in the world (619 points)! But in Doubles (reached the semifinal) she moved up, back into the Top10 again - 7th ranked again (+6 positions / 2070 points)! In the "Race to the Championships"-Rankings things are getting more than critical in Singles (does she still has a chance to qualify???) - 5 positions lost once again and Anna is now ranked 38th with 565 points! In Doubles of course she moved up - ranked 7th with 1540 points with only 5 tournaments played this year so far!!! She moved up 5 positions in Doubles!!

break: Anna is back in Miami again! Stanford starts on July 22nd and so she has 2 weeks left to practise with Harold but I also think she will take a few days off just to relax. It has been a immensely busy first half of 2002 for her with incredible 19 tournaments she entered - but okay: In 10 out of them she already lost in the 1st Round unfortunately :-((( But nonetheless she had to travel a lot anyway!

Trip to Glory...: Take a look back to Anna's great performance at the Kremlin Cup 2000 in Moscow, her home town! It was her 3rd WTA Singles Final!

Anna at Enrique's stage act:
Enrique had a short appearance at the FM's Party in the Park yesterday and Anna was watching backstage behind a curtain. THESE are the FACTS!

Articles: THE SUN (including picture) | Mirror | Dailyrecord | This is London
more Pictures: one | two

And this is what german videotext from Pro7-TV-Channel had to say about the "Kournikisser"-report published by The Sunday Mirror:

MY THOUGHTS are well known I think - I love Anna but to see her attanding his performances and hearing rumors that both spent the night together - the only thing which makes me happy is that SHE is happy - which she obviously seems to be. But everything else depresses me, especially Enrique who I don't like at all!
But I am just a normal fan and well, she doesn't know me and never will probably. So I have to accept this anyhow. And whoever she is dating - FOR ME and every normal fan NOTHING really changes at all. It's only the feelings inside right now!

Doubles-SF LOST & Mixed-QF LOST :-(((( / new Poll / Anna & Enrique in hotel??? / AKFS Calculator
Williams-dominance all over?? It really seems like this unfortunately! First Serena won the Final vs her sister and now they fought back from 1 set down to defeat Anna & Chanda in the Doubles semifinal 6:7,6:0,6:3 :-((( I've expected an even tougher match than the Quarterfinal vs the top seeds and after Anna & Chanda won the first set in the Tiebreak I was really full of hope - but in the end the Williams' were too good obviously! Match Statistics

But anyway - a really good performance in Doubles from Anna!

Mixed Doubles Quarterfinal also lost - suddenly it was scheduled for Court 1, 4th match and Anna has had less than an hour break after her tough Doubles semifinal-match!!!!! Anna & Jonas lost to Bhupathi/Likhovtseva and so I can say that THIS day was really a bad day for Anna - 2 defeats!!! Match Statistics

Watch out for the latest Pictures from Wimbledon at the official Messageboard (Photos Exchange -> Members Photos -> Wimbledon 2002 pictures-Thread)

new Poll: Wimbledon is over - grass court season is over! So I made a new Poll (see left) - personally I doubt that she wins her first Singles Title this hardcourt season but on the other hand anything is possible. But I am sure that she will perform better than the last few months!

Also take a look at the outcome of the last Poll:

I also think that we saw Harold's efforts in Wimbledon already. Anna changed her life and both will keep on working great and sooner or later we will see her playing better in Singles as well!

Anna & Enrique in hotel?!?!: In fact I am fed up with this "reportedly"-SHIT some newspaper reports and thinks to know - in fact they know NOTHING I think - NO pictures to proof THIS as well and in the end it isn't really important but here's the piece of "great" "news":

New York Daily News reports Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova shared a hotel room at central London hotel on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002. Anna didn't leave the hotel until 7:30 am the next morning, enjoying a night that perhaps helped her to win her Wimbledon women’s doubles quarter-final match on Thursday.

THIS SENTENCE - "enjoying a night that..." - SHUT YOUR MOUTHS!!!

And even more: REPORTEDLY (!!!) on Friday Anna arrived at Mayfair Club with some girlfriends (of course, just arrived from Florida just to be with Anna this evening!!!) and then Enrique (plays at FM Party in the Park there today or so) arrived and both should have pre-arranged this meeting. Then his hands should have been "all over" Anna and shortly after he left to the Four Seasons Hotel Anna should have left as well - OF COURSE to meet him at the hotel again... the whole crap | Sunday Mirror-article

FACTS: Enrique was and is in London - pictures proof that he was at Harrod's to launch the summer sale on wednesday and as you can see at his official website he plays at this FM Party TODAY! So this whole story for sure is extremely exaggerated but due to the fact that he is really in London these days it MIGHT be some truth in it! UNFORTUNATELY :-(((((((((((

AKFS Calculator: Nothing really spectacular but just a nice little gimmick for YOU - the AKFS CALCULATOR! Perform basic mathematic calculations and enjoy watching Anna while doing so. All you need is the Flash Player (Download for free if you don't have Flash Player yet)!

Doubles-SF & Mixed-QF today... / Jonas' wife wanted Mixed
Anna has a tough schedule today - first of all Doubles-Quarterfinal vs Serena and Venus Williams - probably even tougher than against top seeded Raymond/Stubbs! AND: A TBA (to be announced)-Match (court and time not determined yet) - Mixed Doubles Quarterfinal vs Bhupathi/Likhovtseva! See the full saturday schedule:

Centre Court - Match play start 2:00 p.m. (CET -1 hour)

V.Williams vs S.Williams
Ullyet/Hantuchova vs Paes/Raymond
Kournikova/Rubin vs S.Williams/V.Williams

I assume match will start at approx. 5:30/6:00 p.m. local (CET -1 hour). I don't want to sound unfair but I am hoping a little bit that the Williams' will be tired after their Singles Final!

TBA

Mixed Quarterfinal
Kournikova/Bjorkman vs Bhupathi/Likhovtseva

As soon as I know more (court, time) I will let you know!

Jonas' wife wanted Mixed: Guess WHO was very happy when it came out that Anna and Jonas are supposed to play Mixed Doubles at Wimbledon this year?? It was Jonas' wife!!!! Quotes from Jonas: “My wife doesn't mind me being Anna's mixed doubles partner as it was her idea in the first place...my wife was all in favour...She said if I played with Anna, we would always play in front of enthusiastic crowds"! Full report

Mixed Quarterfinal TODAY?!?! - 5th match NOW / Wimbledon-pictures / FHM-Interview / ANNA'S INJURIES
Anna & Jonas SHOULD HAVE PLAYED their Quarterfinal-match TODAY against 3rd seeded Mahesh Bhupathi/Elena Likhovtseva! See the full friday schedule (has CHANGED):

Court 1 - match play starts 12:00 noon (CET -1 hour)

S.Williams/V.Williams vs Krizan/Srebotnik    (Williams' won)
Malisse vs Nalbandian    (NEW RE-SCHEDULED)
Ullyet/Hantuchova vs Paes/Raymond
Alexander/Dent vs Dowdeswell/Mottram
Kournikova/Bjorkman vs Bhupathi/Likhovtseva

So I hardly think that Anna & Jonas still will play TODAY and Wimbledon organiser's really have to use EVERY court right now I think and also have to hope for the remaining 2 days that rain will STOP! Maybe they now have to decide to let the matches start earlier than 11:00 a.m.!?!?!

Wimbledon-pictures: See new Wimbledon 2002-pictures in the "Wimbledon 2002 Pictures"-Thread on the official Messageboard (Photos Exchange - Members Photos - Thread)

FHM-Interview: Probably nothing more than what she said in the transcript but a video is always better than just reading black letters on white background. FHM-Interview at fhmus.com (High & Low Quality available)

ANNA'S INJURIES: Injuries are the worst part in an athlete's life but they are a part of it you cannot avoid! I have created a small section with a list of Anna's Injuries so far - with pictures, articles, details! You'll find the section under the Navigation-link "ANNA'S" at the top of the page!

Brilliant defeat of No1-Doubles team :-) / Mixed triumph :-) & Friday-schedule / reports
BRILLIANT! Despite being 1 set behind (1:6) Anna and Chanda came back today in brilliant fashion to beat the world No.1 Doubles team Lisa Raymond/Rennae Stubbs 1:6,7:5,6:4 :-)))) Match Statistics! This is an outstanding victory for Anna and Chanda and now they are in the Doubles semifinal where they will meet the No.3 seeded Williams-sisters which won't be any easier! Netcam-Pictures to come on Friday evening

Interesting facts: This was Anna's 13th Doubles match against Raymond/Stubbs and she managed to win 9 matches (with Likhovtseva 1*, Seles 1*, Hingis 5*, Schett 1*, Rubin 1*) including the one today! Against the Williams-sisters Anna's Doubles record is not so good - from 5 matches so far Anna could only "win" once - October 23, 1998 with Seles at Moscow's Kremlin Cup-QF. But this "win" was a WALKOVER...! So I assume the Semifinal-clash against the Williams' will be even tougher (although there are seeded 3rd and not top-seeded) than the one today. But this win today was simply great!

Mixed triumph: GREAT - Anna and Jonas won again - this time the Mixed Doubles 3rd Round vs Musgrave/Kratzmann - 7:5,6:4 the score! So Anna and Jonas move on to the Mixed Doubled Quarterfinal. Anna last reached a Mixed Doubles Quarterfinal at the US Open 2000 together with Max Mirnyi! GO ANNA AND JONAS!

Anna & Jonas play again on Friday July 5, 2002 against 3rd seeded Mahesh Bhupathi/Elena Likhovtseva! See the full friday schedule:

Court 1 - match play starts 12:00 noon (CET -1 hour)

S.Williams/V.Williams vs Krizan/Srebotnik
Ullyet/Hantuchova vs Paes/Raymond
Alexander/Dent vs Dowdeswell/Mottram
Kournikova/Bjorkman vs Bhupathi/Likhovtseva

So I assume the match will start at approx. 5:30-6:30 p.m. local (CET -1 hour)!

reports: Recently a bunch of british reporters must have been invited by Anna's agent Phil de Picciotto in order to do an interview with Anna and Harold! Remarkable statements from Anna: "I wasn't thrilled about the comments from former players", "Now all my thoughts are of winning and getting better". Harold: "I'd be disappointed if, by the time we go to Australia, the level of her game isn't much higher" - THAT's more or less a promise and taking into account the improvements he brought to Capriati's game we really can expect A LOT of Anna in the future! :-))) Full Report | Navratilova-support | Kournikova's struggle...

2nd Mixed-victory :-) / "crown-threat" /  BL02-Pics
GREAT! Anna and Jonas came back after one set down to finally win in 3 sets 3:6,6:4,6:2 against Martina Navratilova/Todd Woodbridge (Match Statistics)! Anna and Jonas originally were scheduled to play their QF-match also today (in case they would win what the fortunately did :-)) but rain once again was against it! So the Thursday-schedule will tell us when both will play Trudi Musgrave/Andrew Kratzmann in the Mixed Doubles Quarterfinal. I think that both will play once again on court 2 like the previous days!

"crown threat": Tennis legends are against Anna, british tabloids are focussing on the "Legs from Slovakia" Hantuchova (am I the only one who thinks that Anna is much much more beautiful???) and now BBC also thinks that Maria Sharapova (just began with Juniors last year) MIGHT Anna's "successor" as THE beauty-queen in the near future. Full Report

MY opinion: Media are focussing on others because Anna gets too "old" for them on the one hand and she is anything but successful oncourt on the other hand. So Hantuchova with her Indian Wells-title and this Sharapova are featured/HYPED in the british tabloids right now! BUT: I am a huge Annafan and this won't change. And I don't even find Hantuchova more attractive than Hingis for example - but here everybody has his own point of view.

2* Mixed on wednesday / SECURITY ALARM / changes in her life / Doubles 3rd-report / SUN: Anna angry
Tough schedule but the legendary Wimbledon-rain is forcing organizers to this sort of scheduling. Anna and Jonas would have to play twice on wednesday if they win the 2nd Round-match at noon! Afterwards just a break of 1 match and the 3rd Round-Mixed Doubles-match would follow for Anna and Jonas. See the full wednesday-schedule:

Court 2 - Match play starts 12:00 noon (CET -1 hour)

Kournikova/Bjorkman vs Navratilova/Woodbridge
Prinosil/Rikl vs Knowles/Nestor
Kournikova/Bjorkman or Navratilova/Woodbridge vs Kratzman/Musgrave

So THIS is really a very tough schedule if Anna and Jonas manage to win the 2nd Round Mixed Doubles match! If this happens their 3rd Round match vs Kratzman/Musgrave would start at approx. 3:00/4:00 p.m. local (CET -1 hour). BUT: Keep in mind all the rain the last 2 days and it is really hard to predict anything!

SECURITY ALARM: Organizers PLEASE review the security measures and establish stricter regulations on checking the various passes! Last Friday an Australian, Sean Piper, wasn't questioned at all at 2 (!!) checkpoints. He was able to ask Anna for a picture with him as she prepared to leave after a match! Full Report

MY opinion: I have already been to many tournaments and I can really say that security is still something many tournaments are missing. But WIMBLEDON??? The world's biggest and most important tournament??? SHAME on you! THIS guy just was interested in an autograph on his ticket but many others want to hurt a player or even worse. WAKE UP GUYS AND PROTECT THE PLAYERS, especially ANNA!

changes in her life: Anna talked to the media about the unfavorable way the BBC Interview was publiziced and talked about, the changes in her life (parents back in Moscow instead of travelling with her, Solomon) and Harold with a prediction: MAJOR changes and a better level of play HE is expecting until the Aussie Open 2003...! I am no expert, so I cannot say if this is realistic or way too long! Full Report

Doubles 3rd-report: Facts about Anna's & Chanda's victory over the 11th seeded Doubles team Prakusya/Lee.

SUN: Anna angry: Of course THE SUN also had to mention what Anna had to say about the BBC Interview. This and more

Doubles-Win & Mixed 2nd Rd TODAY / Anna hits back / Rubin pro Anna / bostonherald
Anna and Chanda performed great in Doubles today - comfortable 6:2,6:2-Win vs Prakusya/Lee in just 46 minutes! The match was suspended due to rain but at about 2:00 p.m. local it finally started! Match statistics ! Netcam-Images to come on Friday evening!

But now it will become really as tough as it can be for Anna/Chanda! In the Doubles-quarterfinal they will face most likely the world's No.1-Doubles team Lisa Raymond/Rennae Stubbs who are also seeded 1st at Wimbledon!

Tuesday isn't finished yet for Anna - Mixed Doubles is still to come for her - look below's Court1-schedule for today:

Court 1 - match play starts 1:00 p.m. local (CET -1 hour)

Philippoussis vs  Krajicek
Daniilidou vs Capriati
S.Williams/V.Williams vs Montalvo/Tatarkova
Kournikova/Bjorkman vs Woodbridge/Navratilova

So this match will start at approx. 6:00/7:00 p.m. local (CET -1 hour) IF rain isn't spoiling the schedule like yesterday!

Anna hits back: Now Anna is talking about her critics which blamed her during the last week for her behaviour at the BBC Interview, for not being committed to Tennis, that she should consider to play lower-level tournaments etc.! Quotes: "I don't have anything to prove to anybody", "It's not about a title, the important thing is how I feel about my game"! Towards the BBC Interview and the way they dealt with the Interview: "I wasn't thrilled about what they said", "They aren't with me for 24 hours"! Full Report

Rubin pro Anna: Last Friday Anna's current Doubles partner Chanda Rubin talked about Anna and was very supportive: "She was already in the Top10, so obviously she has the game for it...She is one of the most talented players out here. People tend to forget that." Full article

bostonherald: A report was recently published here named "Kournikova knows she's a long way from top" and in it Anna committed that she is possibly not "COCKY" enough to be a top player. Full Report

Anna/Chanda vs Lee/Prakusya TODAY / Mixed clash to come / Martin's Wimbledon-days / PS / sport1-article
Anna and Chanda will play their 3rd Round Doubles later today - see full monday schedule:

Court 2 - Match play starts at 12:00 noon (CET -1 hour)

Lapentti vs Clement
Seles vs Tanasugarn
Philippoussis vs Krajicek
Lee/Prakusya vs Rubin/Kournikova

I assume that Anna's match will start at approx. 7:00-8:00 p.m. local (CET -1 hour)! Hopefully Anna and Chanda will continue to play so successful!

Mixed clash to come: Anna and Jonas face Todd Woodbridge/Martina Navratilova in the 2nd Round of the Mixed Doubles competition!!!!!!!!!!!! What a match in the 2nd Round! Anna NEVER played against this team before but she played Navratilova twice in Doubles (Filderstadt 2001 with Martina, 1st Round, 6-3,6-4 Win / US Open 2000 with Jennifer Capriati, 2nd Round, 5-7,0-6 Loss) and once she played against Todd Woodbrigde in Mixed Doubles together with Max Mirnyi (US Open 2000, Semifinal, 6-4,3-6,6-3 Win, vs Woodbridge/Stubbs)! So HOPEFULLY Anna and Jonas manage to win this time. Go Anna! The match will most likely take place tomorrow!

Martin's Wimbledon-days: A VERY interesting read is Martin's "My days at Wimbledon"-Thread at the official Messageboard - TENNIS! Great and thanx Martin that you share your experiences with us. Neither Alla nor Sergej around at Wimbledon?? Very interesting!

PS: Germany didn't win in the World Cup Final against Brazil - unfortunately. But in 4 years we turn it around :-)

sport1-article: What is Anna missing to become a top player?? This german sports site obviously thinks they know it! article
