Anna beats Elena / Eurosport / "Escape"-Video & -Trailer
Great Anna - straight sets win vs Elena Dementieva in their first match ever against each other - 7:6,7:6 (very rarely Anna has scored such a two-set-win)! Next up for Anna: Anne Kremer in the quarterfinals tomorrow who beat Jelena Dokic yesterday. Now Anna has a great chance to equal her 2001-result in Tokyo - Semifinal (lost vs Davenport)! More details: Anna used her first match point to win her first match vs compatriot Dementieva. So far Anna has 119 Ranking points at her side. With a win against Kremer tomorrow Anna would have 189 points - this means: Anna won't play most likely next week in Paris and combined points from last year out of Tokyo and Paris are 188 Points! So if Anna wins tomorrow and advances to the Semifinal her Ranking won't go lower than 99! With the Tournament in Dubai (start: February 18) Anna will start to climb up the Rankings again because she has no more points to defend.

Eurosport: Europe's leading Sports Channel starts Tokyo-Coverage on Friday 18:15-19:15 CET and 0:30-1:15 CET. So will at least see Anna-Kremer in a summary. On Saturday Eurosports broadcasts both semifinals in summary from 16:00 to 17:45 CET! This will probably be the only time we Europeans will be able to see Anna in February (Video not included) because of the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Unfortunately Eurosport shows nothing else than THIS until Scottsdale!

"Escape"-Video & -Trailer: Now you can check out Annas Appearance in Enrique Iglesias' "Escape"-Video. You can also see this "Escape"-Trailer (go to the Link under "Audio & Video").

Anna vs Dementieva not before 5 pm / Dubai-Confirmation
Anna will face Russian Elena Dementieva for the first time. The match is scheduled for Thursday January 31, not before 5 p.m. on Court 1! This will definitely be an interesting match to watch. Hopefully Anna can score a win. She still has points to defeat in Tokyo!

Pressconference

Dubai-Confirmation: Anna confirmed to play the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open in Dubai (February 18-24) for the first time. This is Tier II-Event. So Anna will play there and therefore it is more than likely that she will rest for 2 weeks after this week's Tokyo-Tournament and not play Paris Indoors like in the past years.

Anna wins 1st match, no Doubles / BILD to Video / Navigation better
Anna is trough to the 2nd Round where she will probably meet another Russian: Elena Dementieva! I would really love to see this match but unfortunately Eurosport starts coverage from Tokyo first on Friday afternoon. Anna beat Torrens-Valero in the 1st Round relatively easily (according to the score) in 48 minutes 6:3,6:0! Anna won and has saved 53 points for the Rankings which is important.
Unfortunately Martina decided to pull out of the Doubles with Anna yesterday. She said it was too much Tennis the last weeks. Very sad!

Pic 1 | Pic 2

Bild to Video: A short view at the topic which frustrates me at the moment - the musicvideo. Do you want to join the Thread at the official Messageboard where Anna posted about this video???! German BILD today has a relatively small report about the musicvideo but for sure they will bring more as soon as it is released her in Europe, too!

The whole video-thing still is incredible for me and I am more frustrated when I read that obviously most of the Guys like it (Replies at Anna's Thread)! I have not seen the MakingOf yet but hey guys - do you really think stuff like this revealing video is good??? Why does Anna not talk about her recent Doubles Grand-Slam i Melbourne??? No, she talks about that we should vote for the Escape-video...

I have still not decided if I continue with annaforever.de! I don't say this to scare you or to get more Feedback or anything. Just an info that I am really disappointed by her! It may have been simple "acting" but this is not the Anna I love to see! Absolutely not! I don't blame anybody who likes this video and the makeup-covered Anna inside, this is just MY opinion!

Navigation better: After receiving Feedback that the Flash-Navigation at the left side isn't that good I improved it a little bit. Hope you like it more now! If not, let me know by feedback or e-mail!

Ranking-Nightmare / Schedule for Tuesday / Anna towards Musicvideo...
The new Rankings are out and as expected - Annas Ranking dropped to 99 in Singles!!! I think I didn't even know her when she was ranked more below (it must have been back 96). The only good news - only this week in Tokyo and next week in Paris she has to defend some points, afterwards NO MORE POINTS TO DEFEAT until San Diego in the end of July so she can only move up again (if she stays healthy)! Plus: Due to her Doubles Triumph she improved her Doubles Ranking from 30 to 10 - wonderful!

Schedule for Tuesday: Anna plays the 5th match on Court 1 on Tuesday vs Cristina Torrens-Valero (not before 5 p.m.). She has 134 points to defeat in this tournament but already by winning the 1st round she secures 53 points (otherwise another drop in the Rankings). In the 2nd Round she would probably meet Elena Dementieva. Both Russian girls have never met before and it would be a very interesting match!

Anna towards Musicvideo...: Anna posted on her official website the Thread "The Video...I need your help" - Well, first of all I thought it would be a teenager who wants to see the video or something like that but no - it is ANNA HERSELF who phrases like this:"U might not like Enrique...he is a good kid...vote for my video...make it a hit" - full Thread! Honestly I don't understand Anna anymore - does she gets a fixed percentage of the money which every single costs??? After seeing this picture of the video I really think about closing annaforever.de because this is absolute unbearable for me. Anna, why do you do this? Just because you like him? Just because of the money (I don't think so)?! I know you don't care about what the press is saying and that is good but I simply don't get it why you made such a revealing video!

Tokyo-Draw: 1st vs Torrens-Valero / german-Special
The Tokyo-Draw is out! Anna face Torrens-Valero in the 1st Round, a clay court Specialist! Really interesting: In the 2nd Round Anna can face Elena Dementieva for the 1st time. Hopefully this match becomes reality, I would really like to see it! Annas will have her 1st match most likely on Tuesday January 29.

See full Schedule here

Anna's possible opponents by round:
1st Round - Torrens-Valero
2nd Round - Dementieva
QF - Dokic
SF - Seles
F - Hingis

So I think that Anna has good chances against Dementieva in the 2nd Round (if both win the 1st round) but will she have good chances against Top10-player Jelena Dokic? For sure no one is unbeatable but Anna just needs matches, matches, matches to get back to the shape she was in before her horrible foot injury! GOOD LUCK ANNA!

german Special: For those who are interested I wrote down my thoughts about the whole Musicvideo with Enrique HERE!

Musicvideo: First Kiss-Pic, Enrique-Comments / MTV / Singles Final
Well, the MTV-Making the video-Show is on the air tonight at 9 p.m. (US-Timezone (don't know which timezone exactly))! After reading several posts on the Messageboard the whole "Enrique-refused-to-kiss-Anna"-thing is crap and both seem to be kissing each other everywhere. Well, now THE SUN (who else?) has published the first Kissing-Pic as well as another pic of both at the set and a report as well with statements from Enrique that he would be an ass if he had not kissed Anna:"She is one of the most beautiful women on earth" (Quote). That's absolutely right!

I often stated my opinion - I KNOW that this is film-kissing and both not love each other but anyway, I am a huge Annafan and so it hurts very much inside!

MTV: Tonight for all fans from the United States (I don't know why but NOT for me as a german -> MTV Europe) there will be the "Making the video"-Show with Enrique Iglesias' "Escape"-Video and Anna also! Complete Time-Schedule of this show!
To be honest: The less I see from this video the better. But for all of you who love to see it, enjoy it!

Singles Final: Personally I didn't see Anna in the Singles Final but for sure she was there. Unfortunately Martina didnt win again in the "heat battle" on Rod Laver Arena (35 degrees!!) although she was up 6:4,4:0 already and had 4 match points!

As soon as I know I will post the Tokyo-Draw, Annas next Tournament (Tier I) which starts on Monday, January 28!

DOUBLES GLORY - 2nd GRAND SLAM FOR ANNA
Anna-Fans all over the world - a dream came true! After nearly 2 hours match play Anna and Martina beat Hantuchova/Sanchez-Vicario in 3 sets. I have to admit that Martina and Anna didn't play their best Tennis most of the Time and even up in the 2nd 5:4 they couldn't win in 2 sets. But after 0:1 in the 3rd set Anna and Martina won the next 6 games to finally win 6:2,6:7,6:1! This is the 2nd Grand-Slam for Anna and she also spoke afterwards in her victory speech - she wished Martina good luck for tomorrow, congratulated Arantxa and Daniela and also thanked BOTH parents (also Martina's)!
Great: Anna said in the Press conference that she and Martina WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY DOUBLES THROUGHOUT 2002 (as long as they stay healthy)! What a day.

It was a day I will never forget because nearly everything is like back 3 years! But this time ANNA first put her kangooroh in the Doubles Trophy (in 99 Martina did so)!

It will take some days to realize that this really happened.

ANNA AND MARTINA - YOU ARE THE GREATEST

25012002_doublesfinal-victory.jpg (29250 Byte)

The Press: Sport 1 | German BILD

more: Now let's all cheer up for Martina Hingis that she finally wins her 6th Singles Grand Slam Trophy. Remember: 3 years ago she first won Doubles with Anna and then Singles Final as well...! Anna will be in the stands again for sure like in the semifinal vs Seles!

Footnote: On a glorious day like this one I really don't want to hear CRAP like this from Enrique what is posted on popdirt.com and what he reportedly said at "Access Hollywood"-Show:"There's going to be acting that's different, one on a motorcycle, the other one, we're going to the movies, you know, another one is sex in the car. Sex in the car, got to be sex in the car though, and the other one is sex in the bathtub. Got to be sex in the bathtub, you know." and "Whenever you do a video, I think you should take it all the way, you know? You can always cut back. We're trying to get as much sex in this video as possible."
Enrique and all the rest of the media - respect Anna's Doubles Grand Slam-Victory and don't blame her for appearing in this video! Personally I try not to see it! Anna is a TENNISPLAYER for me!

DOUBLES FINAL!!!!
The Doubles Final - Anna's 2nd Grand-Slam-Doubles-Title is soooo near and my opinion: 6:3,6:1-victory for the "Spice Girls"! YOUR Vote-Results you can see below - it is obvious who do you think will win! Anna and Martina rule!!!!

Immediately after the match and victory ceremony I will upload many Images and the normal news.

GO ANNA - I wish I were there...

ANNA&MARTINA IN THE DOUBLES FINAL / Final-Schedule
VICTORY VICTORY VICTORY! I hardly can explain how happy I am! Anna and Martina beat the TOP-SEEDED Raymond/Stubbs 6:7,6:1,6:0 after Martina had to play 3 sets vs Monica to advance to the Singles Final as well. Well, I am overwhelmed,in a few hours I will see Anna and Martina LIVE performing against Sanchez-Vicario/Hantchova in the Final. I am soooooooooo happy. Also in a few hours you will have the chance to download something special in the mailinglist so subscribe if you haven't already!

Anyway - ANNA AND MARTINA ARE IN THE FINAL! Nothing can stop the "Spice Girls". I am soo happy! Now just one more victory to the perfect 99-repeat!!!

Match Stats | Story

Pic 1 | Pic 2 | Pic 3

Final Schedule: The most important match is scheduled as 2nd match on Rod Laver Arena! Match play starts there at 11 a.m. so the DOUBLES FINAL will start at 12:30-14:00 local (estimated)! Full Schedule

Anna also was sitting in the stands at the Semifinal Hingis-Seles. TV stations were showing her several times. Anna with her mobile, Anna picking up Ice for her and her parents, Anna walking down the stairs, Anna talking with her parents etc.! Very cute to watch, Anna is something special!

A little example how much Hingis wanted to play Doubles?? During her press conference after her Victory vs Seles she said:"It was a tough one today. I have still got another Doubles to play, so please can we stop soon? I've got to go out there."

German BILD of course writes about Annas winning streak in Doubles - they say "Thanx" to Martina - hey guys,Anna is a world class Doubles Player as well and Hingis alone isn't enough. It is the PERFECT combination that make the "Spice Girls" unique and better than any other Doubles Team.

"Spice Girls" through to Semifinal - facing TOP-SEEDED Raymond&Stubbs / Schedule
Great Great Great - Anna and Martina won the Doubles Quarterfinal vs Asagoe/Fujiwara 6:4,6:2 and it was not such a "close" match than against Boogert/Oremans. In the 1st set Anna and Martina were 3.4 behind but after coming back to a 5:4-lead they managed to win the set 6:4! The 2nd set was close at the beginning - 1:0,1:1,2:1,2:2,3:2! But then they advanced to a 4:2-lead and Anna served it out to 5:2! Finally they broke the serve of their opponents to win 6:4,6:2 and at 12:28 local (2:28 CET) Anna and Martina were through to the Semifinal.

Wonderful job "Spice Girls"! I love you! Stay tuned for the Stats and Pics! You can check out Netcam-Pics in the Tour Gallery!

Raymond/Stubbs: Anna and Martina played 4 times against this pair and WON ALL MATCHES so far:
Aussie Open 99 - SF - 6:3,5:7,6:4
Chase Ch'Ships 99 - SF - 4:6,7:6,6:0
Philadelphia 00 - F - 6:2,7:5
Chase Ch'Ships 00 - SF - 6:4,6:2
As you can see - 3 out of 4 matches took place at a Semifinal...this time once again like 3 years before.

Schedule: OH NO! Martina plays Singles vs Seles (about 13:00 local estimated) before the Doubles Semifinal clash with Raymond/Stubbs. See:

Showcourt1 | Match play starts 11:00 a.m.

Hantuchova/Sanchez-Vic. vs Martinez/Serna
Tarango/Grande vs Etlis/Suarez
Smith/O'Neill vs Roche/Bradtke
Ullyet/Hantuchova vs Bryan/Srebotnik
Anna/Martina vs Raymond Stubbs

Everything depends on Anna's shape and of course how hard Martina's Semifinal vs Seles will be (let's hope a 2-setter)! If both win the Semifinal then I am completely happy because german ARD will broadcast Doubles Final LIVE (like in 99...)! GO SPICE GIRLS - 2 more victories and the dream has come true again!!

January 22, 2002
2-set-victory for "Spice Girls", Wed-Schedule / Prediction & Hingis-Comments...
Anna and Martina beat Boogert/Oremans in Doubles 3rd Round but I had the impression from looking at the Scoreboard that the 2nd set could have gone to Boogert/Oremans also! In the 1st set the key game was the break to 5:3! In the 2nd set Anna and Martina were already 0:2 behind but came back and from then on it was really close. Anna was apparently serving better than Martina and after being down 3:4 Anna managed to win the next game and then both broke Boogert/Oremans to lead 5:4 but Martina couldn't finish the match. Anna did it when leading 6:5 a few minutes later and both won 6:3,7:5!

Match Stats

Pic 1 | Pic 2 | Pic 3 | Pic 4 | Pic 5 | Pic 6

Doubles-Quarterfinal will be played on Wednesday on Showcourt 1, 1st match for Spice Girls - see the Schedule:

Showcourt 1 - match play starts 11:00 a.m.

Asagoe/Fujiwara vs Anna/Martina
...

Prediction & Hingis-Comments...: I don't want to sound to negative and this is just my opinion but I hardly believe anymore that Anna and Martina will win the Doubles competition. Why? Martina still has her for sure very tough Singles semifinal to play and after her surgery she doesn't seem to be the "old Martina" again despite her recent triumph in Sydney. And: Next up in Doubles a really dangerous pair (beaten the 3rd seeded pair in straight sets!) and afterwards in the semifinal it would come to a clash most likely vs the top-seeded Stubbs/Raymond. Nothing is impossible but it will get very very tough for the "Spice Girls", especially for Martina! Here an excerp of Martina comments after her QF-Victory today:
Q. You have your Doubles match after that. Do you have any which you are concentrate on, the Doubles or Singles. Or you can be, do both of them?

A. I think the first three years I played her I won both, so it was always nice. First I won the Doubles, and then the next day the Singles. So that will definitely be the goal of - I mean that's the goal of playing, is to win; so I think, with Anna, we have the great chance to do it again and, if not, I think - definitely, the priority is Singles, but just to win is a goal.

Q. So if you win today the Doubles match, you are going to play against the Japanese players, Asagoe and Fujiwara. Do you know about them?

A. The first is which?

Q. Asagoe.

A. Yeah, I know her. I mean, I don't know the other, but I know Asagoe. Japanese players are usually playing very flat and, you know, very quick, and also good hands. I mean, they are quick around the net. But they don't have all the power. But I think me and Anna, we don't have to be afraid of nobody out there. So we just go out there and play our game.

So she is self-confident and hopes what I am hoping also - a repeat of 1999 in Doubles!!!

January 21, 2002
3rd Doubles match soon / Doubles-Preview / Acapulco- & Indian Wells-Yes
In a few hours Anna and Martina will play their 3rd Round Doubles match vs Boogert/
Oremans. Due to rain matches had to be suspended to Tuesday. Now both play in Vodafone Arena (their the roof can be closed!). Here the schedule for this main court:

Match play starts at 11:00 a.m.

Eagle/Stolle vs Knowles/Nestor
Testud/Vinci vs Coetzer/McNeil
Anna/Martina vs Boogert/Oremans
complete Tuesday-Schedule

Unfortunately Martina has to play her quarterfinal vs Serra-Zanetti first (at 11:00 a.m. / Anna could also be in the stands) so HOPEFULLY this match won't be a 3-setter. It is really my biggest dream that Anna and Martina can win the Doubles Trophy down under again. This would be simply a perfect day! 4 Wins remaining and the dream is reality...

Doubles-Preview: In case Anna and Martina will win their 3rd Doubles match they will meet Shinobu Asagoe/Rika Fujiwara in Doubles Quarterfinal. This pair seems to be very strong because they defeated 3rd seeded Ruano-Pascual/Suarez 6:0,6:4!!! Anna played once against Asagoe in Doubles - ironically at last year's Aussie Open in Round 16 together with Barbara Schett. Anna and Barbara won in 3 sets 2:6,6:3,6:3 and it was the match with the Flare scandal...! Anyway: First of all the "Spice Girls" have to win their match vs Boogert/Oremans.

Acapulco- & Indian Wells-YES: Anna confirmed to play the Acapulco Tournament (Abierto Mexicano Pegaso) from February 25 to March 4. Hopefully Anna can finally play Tennis there because as you all know - last year she suffered this horrible stress fracture straight before that Tournament. Anna also confirmed to play the Tennis Masters Series in Indian Wells straight after Acapuclo So Anna's 2002 schedule until Indian Wells:

Jan 21-27 Aussie Open
Jan 28-Feb 03 Tokyo
Feb 04-10 Paris (don't know if she plays there)
Rest
Feb 25-March 03 Acapulco
Mar 04-17 Indian Wells

"Spice Girls" at Showcourt 1 / Anna & Marat / refused at Adidas Int'l?
Anna and Martina play their 3rd Round Doubles match vs Kristie Boogert/Miriam Oremans tomorrow on Showcourt 1 after the Men's Doubles match Cibulec/Vacek vs Boutter/Clement. Match play starts at 11:00 am so Anna & Martinas match will start at about 13:00-14:00 local (3:00-4:00 CET, estimated times)! Good luck Anna and Martina! You are my all-time dreamteam! Check out the official website for LIVE-Scoreboard-Coverage and Netcam (if available)!

Anna & Marat: According to "Juggler" (official Messageboard) Anna was listening to music most of the time she was watching Marat Safins Match on Thursday! Marat Safin plays vs Pete Sampras at 19:00 local - perhaps we see Anna in the stands again (for Europeans: 9:00 monday morning, Eurosport)!

refused at Adidas Int'l?: According to the latest report from Sydney Anna was scheduled to play an Exhibition match after she and Martina withdrew from the Doubles Final in the last minute. But: Anna reportedly refused to play that Match because her male opponent wasn't good enough for her...!
Well, I don't know why the media writes stuff like that because Anna did play a Mixed Doubles match ("first-to-8-games") this evening where the Doubles Final was scheduled. Anna teamed up with Lisa Raymond to beat Bryanne Stewart/Rennae Stubbs 8-3. So what are you talking about british Press?!?!?!

January 19, 2002
Anna and Martina win 2nd Doubles match / Anna visited Zoo
Anna and Martina also won their 2nd Doubles match quite easily although some games were close but overall - it was an easy and comfortable win - 6:3,6:1! There was one scary moment when Anna taped her right wrist at 2:1 in the 2nd set (see Netcam-Pics in Tour Gallery) - fortunately it doesn't seem to be a real big injury, perhaps a precautionary measure. Both play their 3rd Round Doubles match on Monday vs Miriam Oremans/Kristie Boogert.

Doubles Pic 1 | Doubles Pic 2

The Stats:
Match length: 66min / 1 Double Fault / 3 Winner / 4 unforced errors / 71 of 123 Total points won

Anna visited Zoo: Yesterday Anna and her mother visited the Zoo in Melbourne. Of course many photographers were there also. It was a day for Anna without a Doubles match so why not? Anna seems that she had an enjoyable time there. Report | Pics | Allsport Picture (need to register at official messageboard) | VIDEO | british SUN-Report

Of course the german BILD also has a report of Annas Zoo-Visit (with Pics) - when you read this you can get the impression that Anna is not there to play Tennis but to pose for the photographers while visiting the Zoo. Don't they know that Anna won the Doubles 2nd Round today??? No one seems to be interested in that from the media!
After seeing the VIDEO of Anna's visit to the Zoo I am a little bit frustrated because it was such a big media hype there. Anna smiles in the cameras while feeding the giraffs etc.! But anyway - Anna enjoyed it but what made the media? - zooming in on her leopard thong which you could see a little bit! Shame on you!

January 18, 2002
Doubles 2nd Rd-Match 4th Match on Showcourt 1 / Anna's Journal
Anna and Martina will play their 2nd Doubles Match tomorrow on Showcourt 1 (good chance for LIVE-Netcam-Pics...), see the Schedule for this court:

Match play starts at 11:00 a.m.

Lapentti vs Gaudio
Sugiyama vs Husarova
Costa vs Pavel
Anna/Martina vs Svensson/Maleeva

So for all Europeans this will mean that Anna and Martina will play at 7:00-9:00 CET (estimated) on Saturday morning, 17:00-19:00 local time Australia!

Anna's Journal: Finally Anna wrote to US again - on her official website. Here her remarks concerning the music video:
"On my way to New Zealand just before Christmas, I stopped off in California to film a music video with Enrique Iglesias. This was my first-ever experience doing something like this, and I had so much fun! Enrique was wonderful to work with, and everyone involved with this project was helpful and supportive. The video should be coming out before too long. I hope you like it!"

Anna, sorry but I won't like it. At least you had fun and all these "Zits"-rumors were untrue. Anyway - I just love to see you playing Tennis!

January 17, 2002
Anna and Martina easily win / Charleston-Confirmation / SKIP-HINT... / Musicvideo news
Anna and Martina scored a comfortable easy 1st Round-win against Annabel Ellwood/Tatiana Perebiynis! 6:2,6:2 the score and according to "Juggler" (official Messageboard) both "totally dominated" (he saw this match LIVE)! Next up for Anna and Martina are Magdalena Maleeva/ Asa Svensson. This match will be played on Saturday, not already tomorrow.
PS: The top-seeded Doubles pair Stubbs/Raymond also won their 1st round-match 6:2,6:2 and both could meet the "Spice Girls" in the Semifinal...!

Doubles Pic | Doubles Pic 2

Charleston-Confirmation: Anna has confirmed to play in the Family Circle Cup (April 15-21). In 1999 Anna reached the FINAL here and back there this Tournament was still played at Hilton Head Island. Hopefully Anna can repeat this success.

SKIP-HINT: Just read through THIS - it was posted by someone on the official Messageboards who searched for the mild Ad-Pics:
"...can you post some of the milk pics you have, someone posted a link as to where to find them but it takes FOREVER for the damn page to load  and it has this flash intro and the guy that did the site forgot to put a SKIP INTRO link and you have to watch it and don't get me wrong its ANNA but the intro stinks it has like the worst quality, and its too damn big and I just couldn't take it anymore I closed the site up http://www.annaforever.de! Grrrrrr anyways can you post some of the pics, thx"

HELLO HELLO! I don't know if you have ever used your Browser-Scrollbars but have a look at the picture below...! Thanx for you "compliments" anyway...

annaforever.jpg (78123 Byte)

Musicvideo news: Thanx to Khoi who was sending me this -
"AS i was watching, a little commercial about the making of the video of "escape" from the latin singer enrique Iglases it had a couple of scenes where Anna was kissing Enrique! There were like 3 scenes that i saw, on the sidewalk, in the basthroom and them two lying on the car! There was a scene that Enrique talks about that since it was a love story, he wanted to make the video hot! And he said the secret to the video to make it hot, as i remember, was his special guest Anna Kournikova!( or something close to that).... It then has other scenes where the two were talking and laughing, and i believe that Anna said that the reason that Enrique choose her to be in the video was to kiss her i think, but it was a joke prabably."

I can just repeat my thoughts: I DON'T LIKE to see this at all but thanx to the way I am sure that I cannot avoid to see this video anytime. It will be shown for months for sure. I know it is Annas life and she can do whatever she wants to do but it just frustrates me to see something like this and especially THIS because it can become very famous and can lead to more and more offers for Anna to act in movies in the near future. These offers for sure won't be anymore such little appearances like in "Me, myself & Irene" - it will be offers for female main actress perhaps. Anyway, I assume I have to get used to this somehow but I will always like the tennis-playing Anna the most.

Printmedia about Annas loss / Doubles tomorrow / Fan-Match-Report / Notice
Anna lost to Henin yesterday as all of you know for sure - the day after and the print media starts their reports about it - german BILD of course is focussing once again (who is surprised?) on Annas Outfit (and she reportedly used lipstick!?!?!?!) but the most unbelievable coverage has the british SUN once again. In my opinion THIS is just the most unrespectful way to report about Anna...! What do you think??

another 1st Round-Pic

Doubles tomorrow: Anna and Martina play Perebiynis/Ellwood tomorrow on SHOWCOURT 1. This match is the 4th match on this court. Here the schedule:

Start at 10:00 a.m. on Showcourt 1

Dementieva vs Myskina
Rios vs Kucera
Clijsters vs Schwartz
Anna/Martina vs Perebiynis/Ellwood

complete Thursday-Schedule

Fan-Match-Report: Here is an exclusive report from someone who attended the Anna vs Henin-match. Originally posted on wtaworld.com:
"What can I say, this match started with a total moron in the crowd. Anna's first service game was totally interrupted by this idiot yelling out, blowing his horn, making stupid noises between every serve, during every rally etc. It was totally unfair on Anna and definitely contributed to her opening double fault. I might add that this idiot was removed ASAP, but not before Anna was down 0-1. Henin came out blazing, Anna was playing well, but the difference in power was noticeable, Henin really has strengthened up over the break, especially with her serve which has changed. Anna fought hard and only served 1 double fault for the whole set.

The second set saw Anna lift her game another notch, she was serving quite a few serves in the 160's and scrambling well and attacking when she had the chance, she raced to a 2-0 lead, should have been a 3-0 but she let a break point slip by, she then held to lead 3-1. The next 7 points went to Henin, she played sloppy tennis and her gain was quickly caught up to 3-3. The match then went with serve until 5-5, Anna K lead 40-15 on serve, Henin fought back to Deuce, and Anna threw in her 2nd double of the match, she then saved a few break points but on the 4th Henin closed it with a backhand passing shot down the line.

Henin really was hitting very well, mind you she knew this match was going to be tough. Its a shame the media don't acknowledge the talent of Anna K like the other players do. Henin was very relieved and really pumped her fist when she won as she was made to play a tough match. Anna certainly played a good match and has recaptured a lot of her old form this month. I'm confident by the year end that she should have moved back into the top 30. "

I agree with him - Anna has almost no points to defend after Paris Indoors and if she stays healthy what I am intensively hoping for, then she will get back to the Top 30, 20 by the end of the year!

Notice: I know that Tour Gallery-Updates are missing but I am very busy this week and can just do "small" updates. But during the weekends there will be Updates in the Tour Gallery and VidCaps!

ANNA LOST vs Justine / Doubles on Thursday, no Mixed
What is left for me to say? Anna LOST 2:6,5:7 vs 6th seeded Justine Henin! I am more than frustrated because this means a) a DOWN in the Rankings to somewhere about 100 and b) Anna's earliest exit from the Aussie Open since 1997.
The Match: Anna played not good at all as she admitted afterwards herself. The 1st set took 34 minutes and although Anna was leading 5:4 in the 2nd set and had the chance to take the lead at 5:5 and 40:15 she lost the last 3 games and so the whole match! Stats: Anna scored 16 winners but unfortunately 34 unforced errors (Thanx Carling for the info)

Doubles on Thursday, no Mixed: As you can imagine Anna is frustrated but at least she is HEALTHY and plays Doubles with Martina. Both face Annabel Ellwood/Tatiana Perebiynis in the 1st round on Thursday! Unfortunately Anna doesn't play Mixed Doubles! Wednesday-Schedule

Anna-Henin at 11:00 am, POLL-Results / Anna and Martina play Doubles
I am negatively surprised because as you can see on the Tuesday-Schedule Anna won't play at Night Session - ANNA-HENIN starts at 11:00 am at Vodafone Arena. I was really convinced that THIS match would be scheduled as Night match at 7:00 pm! But no - aren't they interested in higher TV ratings??? I assume many many people regard this match as the TOP 1st Round match in the women's competition. But okay, I cannot change it.
POLL-RESULT: Most of you seem to be really optimistic for Annas Match vs Henin - almost 81% of you think that Anna will win. Let's hope you are right. GO ANNA!

anna-henin_poll.jpg (17114 Byte)

Interested in previous Interviews after Anna lost to Henin? (Philadelphia 99 / US Open 2000) - Let's hope there won't be a 3rd loss-Interview after this 1st round match...

anna_alla_martina_melanie.jpg (13408 Byte)

So the TV Schedule: German ARD TV Channel starts broadcasting at about 1:20 CET on Tuesday morning but german's Tommy Haas also will play about the time Anna will be playing. So chances for a COMPLETE Live Coverage on ARD are low (unfortunately)! Eurosport starts broadcasting live at 8:30 CET on Tuesday morning but first LIVE-Matches. At about 12:00/13:00 CET (depends on lengths of LIVE matches) they start with the best from the Day Session and for sure they show Anna vs Henin.

So to summarize - it could hardly be worse this year! Henin in the first round, no Night Session-match, therefore hardly complete LIVE Coverage (at least in Germany).

I can just say - please keep on voting - I will show the Poll-Results today evening short before the match starts. As it looks right now - most of you think Anna will win...! Hopefully this is what you really think will happen and don't just vote for Anna because I might "expect" it somehow. I am really interesting in what you really think - HENIN or ANNA?!?!?!

Anna and Martina play Doubles: Anna and Martina play Doubles in Melbourne - both won their first Grand Slam Trophy there back in 1999 and it was the first time ever both played with each other. This time the first round opponents are Ellwood/Perebiynis. They will play most likely on Wedensday or Thursday.

PS: BROKEN LINKS (thanx for mailing me) removed from "Previous Updates" (January 1, 2002)!

Anna prepares / Ranking News / BILD-Anna-Special / Haas vs Anna / Aussie99-memory
Anna is of course already in Melbourne and is getting ready for her important match vs Justine Henin on Tuesday. She is again practising with her friend Martina (Image 1 | Image 2). The match will take place most likely at 7:00 pm in one of the big Arenas (Rod Laver or Vodafone). There aren't any further news so far.

I am wondering about this: I remember that on Sunday before the Grand Slam starts there is a Charity Event,Kids Tennis Day or so. Anna was playing in this event since 1998 (correct me if I'm wrong). But this year there is NO info about this event, whether it still takes place or not. Even the good Tournament Website offers no info about this.

Ranking news: Anna improved her ranking a little bit - 64 in Singles but due to the Doubles Final-Withdrawal (Anna won last year's Doubles title in Sydney) Anna moved down in the Doubles Ranking - from 22 to 30! But we all know - Anna reached the QF at the Aussie Open - this year if everything goes wrong she could already lose in the 1st Round and lose 208 ranking points. If she manages to win somehow Anna will get a total of 111 points (Round/Quality Points - 25/86) which would be great. Let's hope she wins.

BILD-Anna-Special: Slowly but surely the german BILD Newspaper gets absolutely Anna-crazy! Now the launched a "Sexy-Anna-Special" where you can view 5 picture galleries, 3 streaming videos (Omega-Appearance in Berlin 2001), read ridiculous rumors about her (DIABETES??), purchase Items (Tennis outfits, book, calendar,...) and send e-cards. You can also WIN a book about Anna - 5 easy questions if you know a little bit about Anna.
Everything is in german of course - BILD is a german newspaper. But you really get no news - rumors, rumors, rumors.

Haas vs Anna: In today's BamS-Interview with Tommy Haas he speaks negatively about Anna!
Translation:
BamS: Your girlfriend Sandy is often compared with Anna Kournikova...
Haas:
„I am getting angry about that. Sandy is much more beautiful and has a much more prettier face (feinere Gesichtszüge?). Especially in London Sandy is often called Anna and I am short from getting mad."
BamS:
Will Anna win her first Tournament this year?
Haas:
"If she tries at some smaller tournaments it she should succeed. I hope it happens. She isn't that bad."

Tommy, Sandy might be more beautiful than Anna from your point of view but not from my point of view!

Aussie99-memory: I was just watching Annas matches from the Aussie Open 1999 - this will always be my most memorable Anna-Grand-Slam! Take a trip back and look at some pictures, audiofiles VidCaps and if you like to purchase videos. The BEST thing - this year Anna and Martina finally play Doubles again - in 99 it was their first tournament they ever played together - and they won the Doubles Grand Slam. Do it again Anna and Martina!

Anna faces Henin on Tuesday / Anna in Melbourne / Video news / Thanx...
Anna plays against Justine Henin (6th seeded at Aussie Open) but not already on Monday (bottom half of the draw) - Anna plays on Tuesday, most likely at 7 pm local time (9:00 CET) on a big court like Rod Laver Arena or Vodafone Arena. Complete Schedule for monday

For all Europeans let me say that Eurosport is broadcasting the Aussie Open almost throughout the day starting on Monday, January 14 on 9:00 CET! So with ARD and Eurosport broadcasting live (in Germany) Annas match will be shown live at least. Hopefully she wins and can improve her head-to-head-result to Justine to 1-2! Don't forget to VOTE below!

Anna in Melbourne: I've read that Anna was spotted in Melbourne eating Sushi with her parents! This is no confirmed news but it is very likely that it's true! Anna didn't play the Doubles Final in Sydney (Martina withdrew) and so I assume that she travelled to Melbourne already yesterday.

Video-News: Now I know it (not SO important news but interesting) - Anna did the videoshot with Enrique Iglesias (still hard to believe for me) on December 21 & 22, 2001! So Anna flew to Auckland straight afterwards! Interesting. Video premier: January 26, 2002 10pm in MTV's "Making the video" (Video at the end of this 30minute-show)!

Thanx: A big THANK YOU goes out to the Netherlands to Irene who wrote a very very nice Feedback-Mail. Yes, I definitely will keep up the "brilliant work"! Thanx also to Aspera. To all of you who appreciate what I do here: THANX A LOT! It's all because Anna is a special person in my life since 1996.

Hingis: NO Doubles Final!! / Bravosport - Victory /sport1-Poll
That's more than sad! After Martina played a tough 3-set-match in Singles against Kim Clijsters and managed to win although she had to get treatment to her left leg she decided to withdraw from the Doubles Final with Anna - the title went to Raymond/Stubbs!!! REASON: Martina withdrew due to a thigh strain and she said:"There is no way I could have played tonight,... I don't want to risk it in the doubles. I've played a lot of matches so shortly after coming back from injury -- maybe too much too soon," said Hingis, coming back from a three-month injury layoff. "I don't want to force myself over the limit.''

Well, this is more than sad, especially for Anna but I can understand Martina. I just hope and pray that both play Doubles in the Aussie Open starting next monday!

Draw-Nightmare: OH NO! After the Doubles Final Withdrawal now THIS - Anna faces 6th seeded JUSTINE HENIN in the first round of the Australian Open, for sure the toughest draw since the Aussie Open 1997 where she had to play against Amanda Coetzer in the opening round - and lost! Reason for this: Anna's current ranking which went down to 71 due to her 8 month injury layoff!
Annas record against Justine Henin isn't very promising - she lost against her in Philadelphia 99 (coming back from stress fracture...) and in the 3rd round of the US Open 2000! Full Draw

I knew it would become tough for Anna due to her current ranking but what if she looses in the first round??? Last year Anna reached the quarterfinal and has lots of points to defeat! If Anna loses vs Henin she will slide down in the Rankings to somewhere around 100 (what a nightmare)!

BravoSport-Victory: The "Ottowahl" has ended and Anna won once again - 34,44% voted for her (18,71% for 2nd place). Unfortunately I didn't win the "dream meeting" (Traumtreff) with Anna for the 4th year in a row!:-(

sport1-Poll: Do you know what sport1.de is asking: "Who is the most attractive player? (Ashley Harkleroad,Anna,Scarlett Werner, other)" => Anna clearly is the most-voted player but to be honest: For the media Anna gets too "old" slowly but surely and for them she will never become a really top player and so there are beginning to focus on new young talents who are just about the turn pro.
My statement: Do what you want but I have the same opinion like "Eike Luh" (GB-Entry) - There will never be a second Anna! Anna is unique and always will be!

Anna & Martina won SF / Aussie Open02-Draw / Fri-Schedule
Anna and Martina are through to the Doubles Final in Sydney - both scored a 6:3,6:4-win against Justine Henin/Meghann Shaughnessy! Anna couldn't hold her serve when serving at 5:2 in the 1st and 2nd set but there was a great backhand by her to secure the first match point for the "Spice Girls". I still don't know their final opponents but as soon as know it I will post it.

Aussie Open02-Draw: The Main Draw for the Australian Open 2002 will be made tomorrow at 10:30 am (for me as a European it means 0:30 CET). More Details

Friday-Schedule:

Centre court

Not before 7.30 P.M.
Serena Williams (US) v Meghann Shaughnessy (US)
Women's doubles final
Lisa Raymond (US)/Rennae Stubbs (Aus) vs Martina Hingis (Sui)/Anna Kournikova (Rus)

I just read that Raymond/Stubbs won on wtaworld.com but I assume it is right (they are the top seeds)! Ridiculous that the official tournament website doesn't provide us fans with simple scores!
So according to the schedule the Doubles Final will start at about 11:00-12:00 CET!
Anna can defend her Doubles Title from last year in Sydney (with Schett) and guess who were their opponents in the Final?? - Raymond/Stubbs! Anna and Schett won on January 12, 2001 6:2,7:5! Do it again Anna, you deserve it!

January 9, 2002
Anna and Martina won  QF / Thursday-Schedule / Fan in Heli with Anna / new Flash-Navigation
Anna and Martina won their Doubles Quarterfinal vs Nagyova/Tulyaganova 6:4,6:2! They are on their way to set up a clash against the top seeded Doubles Team Stubbs/Raymond in the Final on Saturday!
Opponents in Doubles Semifinal: Meghann Shaughnessy/Justine Henin

Remember last year: Anna/Schett BEAT Raymond/Stubbs in the final 6:2,7:5!!!! Annas very last Doubles match vs Raymond/Stubbs was on February 4, 2001 in the Tokyo-Final together with Iroda Tulyaganova - unfortunately a very close loss - 6:7,6:2,6:7!

Thursday-Schedule:

Center Court - 11 am

- Sandrine Testud vs Martina Hingis
- Justine Henin vs Kim Clijsters
- Marcelo Rios vs Roger Federer
- Martina Hingis/Anna Kournikova vs Justine Henin/Meghann Shaughnessy

So I assume the match will start at about 6:00-7:30 CET!

Fan in Heli with Anna:
"On Anna's recent vissit to South Africa, she came to fly with us in our helicopter !! We transported her to her next match. What fun to spend an hour sitting next to her and chatting about stuff. She is really full of fun and I was very surprised with how cool and down to earth she is.
Thanks Anna and stay cool !!" (posted by "Divemaster" on official Messageboard)

THIS kind of Fan-Reports are the best thing - wonderful and I would like to experience on my own how wonderful her character is! Great stuff to here, thanx for posting it "divemaster"

new Flash-Navigation: I added again a new FLASH Navigation bar to the Site with only 8 main points but you find everything by simply move the mouse over it! HINT: Move over the buttons from button to Top otherwise there might be some irritating navigation (a little Flash-Problem which I couldn't delete so far but I am working on it)!

Anna lost vs Serena / Schedule for Wednesday / "Blitz"-Stream / Video premier
According to the score and the stats Anna had a really tight match against Serena and was really really fighting! A viewer mentioned that she looked like a "stick insect" in comparison to Serena but we know how "masculine" the Williams' look like, don't we?! Anyway, Anna lost vs Serena in 3 sets 2:6,6:4,3:6 but this is result is better than that from their first encounter back August 17, 2000 in Montreal where Anna lost in straight sets 3:6,2:6!!! So I am not happy because she didn't win but I am also not frustrated because she was fighting and also didn't struggle with her serve! Annoying: Serena said in an interview that she cannot believe how bad she played...! Why can't she simply admit that her opponent played well??? For comments like THAT I don't like the Williams Sisters! I mean simply compare the forced & unforced errors: Serena has more and also committed more double faults. It is obvious that she made more winners - that is her power game! Pic from Annas Serve

Anyway, Anna still plays Doubles with Martina and as soon as I find the schedule for tomorrow you will be informed!

Video of Annas 1st Round match

The Match Statistic:

Anna Kournikova:

%1st serves 62%
%1st serve wins 57%
Aces 1
Double Faults 3
Winners 10 (fh5,bh1, net 4)
unforced errors 31
Forced errors 43

Serena Williams:

%1st serves 56%
%1st serve wins 69%
Aces 7
Double Faults 5
Winners 27 (f18,bh6, net 3)
unforced errors 35
Forced errors 48

Schedule for Wednesday:
Court 1 - 11 am

- Daniela Hantuchova vs Meghann Shaughnessy
- Guillermo Canas vs Nicolas Escude
- Henrieta Nagyova/Iroda Tulyaganova vs Martina Hingis/Anna Kournikova

So Annas Doubles match will start probably at about 4:30-5:30 CET.

"Blitz"-Stream: A report shown on this TV channel about Anna & Enrique on Friday January 4, 2002! (Hurry up, I don't think the link will work forever)

Video premier: Enrique Iglesias' official site says MTV's Making the Video will feature Enrique and Escape this month, with the premier on January 26th at 10 pm. So it seems that the previously published premier date was wrong!

Anna wins in Singles and Doubles (+Pic) / Wednesday Schedule / TV / Poll
Anna scored a comfortable win against 23th ranked Angeles Montolio in the first round of the Adidas International in Sydney! In the first set Anna was leading 4-1 and in the second 5-1 but Montolio made the results closer. After all, it was a 6:4,6:2-victory for Anna and she will now face Serena Williams which will be a really hard match for her. Both only played once against each other - back in Montreal 2000 in Round 16 and Serena won 6-3,6-2! Good Luck Anna.Read the report

Anna's stats in her match..

24 unforced errors
23 winners (11 at the net, 3BH 9 FH)
1 Ace
2 Df's
83 % of first serves in / won 73% of them

Great news from Doubles - Anna and Martina won in straight sets vs Janet Lee/Wynne Prakusya 6:4,6:2! Great job "Spice Girls"!

See a pic of the Doubles match today

Wednesday Schedule:
Center Court
11 am

HENIN Justine (BEL) v SCHETT Barbara(AUT)
Followed by
RAYMOND, Lisa (USA) v HINGIS Martina (SWI)
Followed by
GROSJEAN Sebastian (RSA) v SRICHAPAN Paradorn (THA)
Followed by
WILLIAMS Serena (USA) v KOURNIKOVA Anna (RUS)

No Doubles schedule so far...

So Annas match might start at approx. 6:30-7:30 CET (16:30-17:30 local time Down Under). What do YOU think Anna will perform against Serena in their 2nd encounter??? I hope it will become a real close fight and not a "Serena-show"! GO ANNA! You have nothing to lose, you can only win.

TV:
I just saw a short summary of the 1st Round-Match on Eurosport but here is where you might see Anna again today on TV:
- Eurosport News Report, 23:00 CET
- CNN "World Sport", 23:30 CET

Eurosport starts coverage from Sydney on Wednesday so unfortunately chances are little that they show the ANNA-SERENA-Match because both already play tomorrow!

Poll: I added a new POLL to annaforever.de (left) - please vote and be honest! Look at the result of the last poll:

pollshot.jpg (31476 Byte)

So the majority of you wanted Anna to cut down on promotional events - same with me (and now this music video-kiss...)

The Schedule is out - Anna plays Montolio tomorrow at about 1 pm (local time / means about 3:00 CET) on Centre Court. Afterwards not before 7:30 pm (9:30 CET) Anna will team up with Martina Hingis (my dream team) to play their 1st Round Doubles match against little known Janet Lee (TPE) & Wynne Prakusya (INA)! Good luck Anna. Here is the full schedule for tomorrow on Center Court:

Sydney-Draws: Singles Draw | Doubles Draw

Training yesterday: "...Anna joined in! Yup, Miss Glamour Girl has landed...she was wearing BLACK warm-up like pants...wasn't she HOT? And a loose gray shirt. They hit for awhile, Anna's volleys at the net, the punch ones are quite good, you don't really appreciate how good she is until you see her up close! Martina was complementing Anna on her angles, Anna on Marti's serve....they seem to be on quite amicable terms...Anna kept on saying sorry for bad shots...!The most touching/poignant part of their session was when they were sitting down. And I guess Martina wanted a bit more water, so Anna took her bottle and poured some water into Marti's awwwwwww Their just like Spice Sisters! And then HE came! Mr. Andy HOTDICK! Anna didn't really look at him but I saw Marti steal a few glances...it looked like she wanted to say hi! The sad part of the session tho was Molitor left through the door where a bunch of fans were waiting for autographs...Anna was leading Martina off the court and Marti was gonna go down to the fans, but then Anna went out this other door so Marti followed! Those poor fans!" (by "Tennisace",wtaworld.com)

Wonderful report - There is nothing more wonderful to watch Anna and Martina practise and play (thinking back to Filderstadt 2001...)!

News: the latest Screensavers are available again!!!
One word towards a Feedback-Mail I received today - I should deinstall the FLASH-Intro because it takes to long to load...! I KNOW that it is a large file but you can easily skip it and get to this mainpage by simply scrolling down the Intro Page and use the "Skip Intro"-Link. Where is the problem??

Anna vs Montolio in Sydney / Rankings news / Video-news
Anna faces Montolio in the 1st Round of the Adidas International in Sydney, most probably already on Monday January 7, 2002! But if she wins she will play against Serena Williams!!! This will be a real test for Anna I think, here she can see how good she already is again. But it will also be Serenas 1st match in 2002 so Anna for sure has a good chance against her. If she wins her first round she also will climb up the Rankings after this week because from 2001 there are only 28 Pts to defend for here (Anna lost in 2nd Round last year)! Good luck Anna

Rankings news: On January 7 Anna will be ranked 66th in the world - she gains 96 points because of her semifinal-appearance in Auckland this week! Anna WILL be in the Top 10 again! Only a matter of time!

Video-news: First of all I have to say that every time I will see this video I will be sad because that is not the Anna I like so much - Anna in a most likely very successful music video (nightmare scenario for me: Anna at the VMA's 2002...)! But the info is that the Video will be first shown on MTV on January 29 in "Making the video"! Some pictures of making this video!

January 4, 2002
Anna lost vs. Smashnova / BILD: "Anna: Now she kisses Enrique Iglesias"
OH NO! Anna lost the battle against Smashnova very clearly, according to the first report I've read it was a "battle of wills that Kournikova clearly lost". Anna herself admits that she wasn't patient enough and played her opponent's game instead of forcing Smashnova to play her game. The result is clear and of course frustrating for me - 1:6,4:6 (sorry for the previously posted result - it was from the official tournament website!!!!)! Some quotes from Anna: "I think I didn't really play my game today...She was playing her game and I started playing her game too. Instead of being aggressive, I started keeping the ball in play for too long and that's what she wanted."

To be honest - I really was convinced that THIS Tournament would bring the first Singles title for Anna but unfortunately this is not the case. But needless to say that I keep on believing in Anna! She will get what she deserves, sooner or later. The most important thing - she is healthy!

new Streamvideos here again

Next chance for Anna (of course with a more star-filled draw) is Sydney, starting on Monday, January 7, 2002!

BILD: "Anna: Now she kisses Enrique Iglesias": As I bought the BILD newspaper today I hardly could believe it - "Anna:Now she kisses Enrique Iglesias"!!! I knew the whole thing already on New Year's Eve but here the first pics and now I definitely know that Anna really did this...! I am frustrated - doesn't Anna tell us always that she wants to fully concentrate on her tennis-comeback???! I mean - of course she can make a video appearance for 1,2 days during a tournament but WHY does she have to kiss this guy?? I hardly can believe it but unfortunately this horrible Video will be out soon I guess and then we'll all see it again and again on MTV,VH-1 etc!

PS: The BILD-Pics from today were also shown in ZDF's "Leute heute" and it was also on SAT1's "Blitz": There they meant it could be a possible new boyfriend of Anna...! I don't comment this s..it anymore!

January 3, 2002
Anna through to semifinal, next: Smashnova
GO ANNA: 3rd straight victory in a row and on 3 consecutive days - simply great but this time it was close for Anna - 2:6,6:4,7:5 her tough win against Switzerland's Emanuelle Gagliardi (their first match against each other)! After all it was an 2-hour-match! Some quotes from Anna:

"I am not happy with the way I played but I'm happy with the way I felt and that I was really fighting fornit and I was giving my best and trying really hard."

"I wasn't thinking negative, I was thinking positive so that helped me a lot."

Now Anna turns her attention to Anna Smashnova in the semifinal of the ASB Bank Classic. Both played once back in Hamburg 2000 on clay and Anna won 6-3,6-2! Anna about Smashnova:

"I have only played her once and it was on clay, she is a tough player to play against and brings everything back and is a real baseliner."

Look under "Video Highlights" for a QF-Video

January 2, 2002
Anna marches on in Auckland - QF vs Gagliardi, see Streamvideos
Wonderful news: Anna also beat Amy Frazier (7th seeded) in Auckland. It was another hot day in New Zealand but Anna played more consistend and managed to win in straight sets - 6:4,6:1 the score. Now Anna meets Emanuelle Gagliardi in the quarterfinal. Anna has a huge chance to finally win her first tournament but she says that she just thinks about her next match to stay focused. Keep on doing that Anna. Martinez, Nagyova - already out!

See a video of Annas 1st match vs Cara Black

See a video of the 2nd Round-pressconference

But there is also bad news: At the press conference after the match a reporter really insulted Anna - she should be selfish etc.! Anna simply returned "It's nice that you judge me" and then she called him annoying. What is going on in the head's of some reporters???

January 1, 2002
Anna won Black, now vs Frazier
Great! Anna won her first match in 2002 in straight sets (once again against Cara Black) - 7:6,6:2! Anna struggled in the first set and was down 1-4 but after all Anna played really strong and she is really happy that she came to New Zealand 1 week ago (match condition: 37 degrees):"The first tournament of the year is always difficult,
