Another Stress fracture extends Annas vacation
Is this fair? For sure it isn't!Anna suffered another stress fracture, this time in her left foot. Some guys report from a "broken foot",we don't exactly know but it's definitely sure that Anna will miss the upcoming next 2 Tournaments in Acapulco (MEX) and Indian Wells! This is horrible, perhaps she will even miss more due to a slow recovery or the bad status of the injury!

Remember:It was in August 1999 when she suffered a stress fracture in her right foot - she
couldn't play the US Open, doctors were saying that she will be back in action in September but Annas first tournament after this serious injury was Linz (Austria) in the end of October...!

Let's hope and pray that this time she won't be missing so many tournaments and will recover more quick! Her next tournament might be the Ericsson Open starting on March 19th very near to her home in Florida!Hopefully she is able to join this important Tournament.

This injury is very depressing - for Anna as well as for us!Let's hope that she won't suffer so many serious injuries in her future!

In an other article about Anna watching Sergei Fedorov playing an icehockey match of his team she should have said towards questions about her relationship with him "Sorry,I'm on vacation"!Sergei also refused to say sth. and told everybody to go to the Internet to find out everything!

Looking for Anna
Still no Anna-News but probably she is already on her way to Acapulco where she will be playing a Tier-III-Event!She will be the 1st seeded player at this tournament for the first time in Annas career but it's logically that she is the best seeded player at a Tier-III-Event,isn't it?

Today we just added a little new category in the Pictures Section where you can see Anna receiving her doubles award for the best doubles team 1999!In fact we refuse to show Upskirt-Pics but here Anna WANTED to appear in such a sexy way and so we finally show the pics!Other Upskirt-Pics of Anna which she doesn't want to be published or even to be taken for sure we won't show!

Is he caught?
Today we heard that the guy who has programmed the "KOURNIKOVA VIRUS" has get caught in the Netherlands! We hope that incidents like this one won't happen again and it shows how popular Anna already is.We cannot understand how a person can be so cruel to use a picture of Anna to attract men all over the world to open an email-
Attachment! What will happen next??Hopefully normal Tournament Results will be posted again and for sure they will be in 1 1/2 week when Anna plays the NEW WTA Tournament in Acapulco!

Tomorrow you will be able to see new Scans of BravoSport and BILD from today as well as the first Photostory in 2001...

Anna takes 2 weeks off
We expected it and a few weeks without playing tournaments is okay!Anna played 6 weeks in a row and will now take 2 weeks off before flying to Mexico to take part in the Mexican Open,a Tier III-Event!Last year she played the Tier II-Event in Scottsdale, this year she plays the 170000$-Event in Acapulco! Will she finally win a Tournament,no matter where?!You get the impression that this might be true but perhaps Anna just wants to play somewhere else she hasn't played before, who knows?1999 she played Oklahoma,2000 Scottsdale and this year Acapulco!

Afterwards she will probably play Indian Wells and then Key Biscayne, the Ericsson Open!

Anna lost vs. Mauresmo in 3 sets
It is frustrating to report from another defeat of Anna!Anna lost vs. home crowd favorite Amelia Mauresmo in 3 sets although she was leading 6-2,3-0 and was playing very very good!It is really frustrating, how frustrating must it be for Anna?!Somehow,Mauresmo came back although she was struggling in the 2nd set but then everything went well for her! The crowd supported her very very well and it seems to us that someone doesn't want Anna to win her first Singles Trophy! It is frustrating, even more because Anna probably won't play next week.Like last year and the year before!

February 8, 2001
Anna won vs. Kleinova
Great!Anna easily beat Sandra Kleinova in the 2nd round of the Open Gaz de France Tournament in Paris!Anna arrived just yesterday after playing an exhibition in Osaka (JPN) where she beat Ai Sugiyama two times (0-6,6-3,7-5 and 6-4,7-5) on Monday and Tuesday!Tough week for Anna but after Mary Pierce surprisingly went out of the tournament Anna is THE BEST SEEDED PLAYER left in the Tournament and it is a great chance to secure her first Singles Trophy!Today Anna had an easy victory over Sandra Kleinova who she already beat at the 2nd round in the US OPEN 2000 but now in the quarterfinals home crowd favorite Amelia Mauresmo waits...!

"I'm pretty happy with the way I played," Kournikova said. "This is my first day on the surface, because I only got here yesterday, but I'm feeling comfortable and if I play like this I can do well."

"When you're on court it's difficult to feel sorry for anyone," Kournikova said.

That's what she said afterwards today but it's going to be difficult against the home favorite but nothing is impossible! We still think that Anna has a huge chance to win her first Singles Title here!

Tomorrow we know more!

Anna has bye in Round 1
As expected Anna doesn't have to play the first round of the Open Gaz de France Tournament in Paris this week. She received a BYE because she is the second seeded player at this tournament. In Round 2 she will either face Emilie Loit or a qualifier! If she faces the qualifier it might be even harder for Anna because she doesn't know what to expect! This is always more difficult to play against an opponent you don't know anything about.

Take a Look at our Prediction in the draw - we think that Anna will march through the final! Why?Look at her previous Singles Tournaments:Final in Moscow,Semifinal in Madison Square Garden,Final in Hongkong, okay forget Sydney, quarterfinal in Melbourne and a few days ago the semifinal in Tokyo!Plus:Hingis and Davenport aren't in Paris,so Anna is the 2nd seed directly behind Pierce because last year's champion Serena Williams pulled out of the tournament - so these are our reasons why Anna should reach the final if she doesn't lose against Tauziat in the semifinal like last year! She has a very good chance, perhaps also her first Singles Triumph in her professional career...Everything is possible if Anna plays her best!

Anna lost the doubles final
Anna and Tulyaganova lost the doubles final but it was a very close match vs. Lisa Raymond/Rene Stubbs:6-7,6-2,6-7 the score!
In our opinion it was a good week for Anna compared to 2000!
Last year she went out in the quarterfinal in Singles (Hingis) and already in the first round in Doubles - this year semifinal and final!Great!

Now Anna will fly to France to compete in the Open Gaz de France Tournament. As soon as the draw is released, you will be informed for sure.

Read Annas Post-Match Interview after her Victory vs. Anne-Gaelle Sidot in Tokyo.

February 3, 2001
Anna lost vs. Davenport
Ok!It seems that the World Number 2,Lindsay Davenport, was too good again. But Anna fought as much as she can and was able to win at least the second set but afterwards was beaten -0 in the third set!

Anna was more successful in the doubles semifinal. She and her unknown partner Tulyaganova defeated Nicole Arendt/Ai Sugiyama in 3 sets 4-6,7-6,6-0 and so Anna is still competing in Tokyo and perhaps she can win her already second doubles title this season. We hope so!

Next week Anna will be in France to compete in the 9th Open Gaz de France Tournament in Paris.Anna is seeded 3rd!

February 2, 2001
Anna in the semis in Tokyo
Great!Anna defeated Anne-Gaelle Sidot today in the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tournament in Tokyo in the quarterfinal quite easily 7-6,6-2!She seemed to have played more solid than she did against Obata in the previous round.

Anna has already get more far than she was able to get last year when she lost against Hingis in the quarterfinal.

Now she faces her quarterfinal opponent from the Australian Open - Lindsay Davenport, once again! It's gonna be tough again but nothing is impossible and Anna is able to defeat her again!

February 1, 2001
Anna struggles to beat Obata
It really seemed to be close!Anna had to fight to beat her opponent in the 2nd round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tournament in 3 sets 7-6,1-6,6-4!It is very often more difficult to play against an low-ranked opponent you don't know than against an better-ranked opponent you know! This result is another proof for this theory but okay, everything is fine:Anna won and is now in the quarterfinal!

Today Anna and her doubles partner beat Shaughnessy/Pratt easily in the quarterfinal 6-4,6-1!

Tomorrow Anna has to play french Anne-Gaelle Sidot in the quarterfinal!Remember:the french player ended Annas Singles Appearance at last years Wimbledon so Anna should look for "revenge"!
