Anna WON her 1st match in Bol :-)))) but injury scare / Wertheim pro Solomon / Anna acts against Penthouse / Anna about Enrique-rumor / Jay-Z with Anna & Enrique???
Anna won her first Singles match since February 29 and Bol seemed to have been the right decision - 6:7,6:2,6:2 vs Julia Vakulenko in the 1st round. Anna still committed 50 unforced errors and 8 double faults but the only thing that matters right now is the VICTORY and she showed her fighting spirit once again. After the first set Anna took a medical time-out and got treatment to one of her right hand's fingers (see pictures) but she won the following sets :2 :2 so this shouldn't be such a problem.
Next up probably on thursday - Tina Pisnik from Slovenia. Anna has to get more confident and avoid so many faults. But right now Anna should have much more self-confidence. Interview-Cuts

Anna & Enrique at April 8: Another "she's
been spotted"-story but it is POSSIBLE - both
reportedly had dinner (once again) at "Bennigans" (I
assume that's the restaurant's name) in
Tampa,Florida! Jennifer Capriati should have been
with them as well as a group of about 15 people.
Anna and Enrique weren't pleased with the fact that
the whole restaurant were starring at them (sad
truth I think) and even policemen should have been
involved somehow (I think they wanted the people
stop starring). In the end Anna and Enrique should
have left the restaurant.
Well, once again believe it or let it. What does it change at all?? Anna was playing in Amelia Island vs Suarez on April 9 so this CAN be true. But anyway - just another "reportedly"-thing with no picture-proof or anything!

ANNA becomes "big"
I saw a RTL-report about the Omega-presentation and I cannot believe this - HOW COULD ANNA GAIN WEIGHT (YOU SEE IT!!!!!!!!!) IN 9 DAYS???? This is something I never expected to happen. I think she was training with Solomon in South Florida this week!?!?!? Is THIS the reason for her not to play the "big" tournaments!?!?!?! Look at the pictures from Charleston just 9 days ago - HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!?!?!?
Anna was interviewed in the report by RTL and it was really obvious to see in her face that she gained weight but I cannot believe it and I am crying right now. She reportedly didn't act polite and was also asked to greet Enrique - they think THIS is the reason for her to become "bigger"!
I cannot continue writing - I don't understand how this is possible but I COULD SEE IT and that is the most unbelievable thing. I thought she would be training but she couldn't have done much beside eating the last days because otherwise THIS cannot happen in just 9 days since Charleston-match.
I cannot believe my eyes - please wake me up out of this nightmare! ANNA, WHAT IS GOING ON???????????
A few hours are gone - I was watching another short RTL-report and had a long long chat with a good friend who COULDN'T notice any difference at her body!?!?! Well, perhaps I've exaggerated a bit but oncourt-pics will show it SOON I guess. It's really not like her BEAUTY is all that matters to me (I would do another kind of website if that would be the case) but I also wouldn't like to see her with obvious overweight! Don't get me wrong, perhaps I am just hypochondric today, perhaps not. Well, NOW all the small hopes are gone that she might still play Hamburg and/or Berlin...first I wrote the tournament organisers admitting that she withdrew (sport1.de) although she first accepted the offered wildcard and NOW Anna herself spoke to her many many german fans: "I'm very sorry for the Berlin fans because I feel very comfortable there, but after the long injury pause I don't believe I can compete in such an important tournament" - Anna, how could a sentence like this make me happy??? This really seems to be a big crisis without an obvious reason (injury etc)!
I am deeply frustrated because now I have 2 weeks off but what am I supposed to do?! Absolutely frustrating but deep in my heart I know that she is doing the right thing!

Bye bye Berlin as well?? - Frustrating vs promising
First of all THANX to saff76ar,OCT and Robin_Love for thinking about my feelings towards this latest news - Anna skipps Berlin and plays Warszaw??? Well, it is RIGHT NOW just a sidenote in an article concerning a little tournament in Vienna but the whole Bol-Warszaw-schedule would be logical, really logical.
I AM DEEPLY FRUSTRATED, no doubt. I have bought tickets already, I've taken leave, not to mention the joyful feelings inside when looking at the calendar each day and now???? - everything for nothing (as it seems now)!
BUT: I have talked with a friend of mine on the phone and after a long discussion I am feeling much better now - THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!! For sure! After Anna's string of defeats in the last 4 tournaments the Salomon-News was great and it is also great to see that Anna finally seems to realize that she has to change something - playing smaller tournaments just to get more match practise is a good decision but for ME (and also my friend) it is the "wrong" time because we won't be able to see her in Bol and Warszaw. Nevertheless we know that her decisions are RIGHT, absolutely right and we've been waiting for this as well!!! None of us would have thought that she might skip either Hamburg or Berlin back a few weeks! But Anna's "restart" seems to start RIGHT NOW and unfortunately for us this obviously means neither Hamburg nor Berlin.
It is hard for me to say because frustrations are big but: It can only be positive for Anna's tennis career. Of course it would have been awesome to see her LIVE again in 2 consecutive weeks but we would have been immensely frustrated as well if she would have LOST early in Hamburg and Berlin.
So to sum this up - Anna is on the right way and obviously Salomon stands behind these decisions. It is just frustrating for us because of the timing but for Anna this can only be helpful - so: I support you Anna although I (PERHAPS!) spent my money for tickets I don't need anymore!
BILD vs Anna: Very nice BILD - now they compare
Martina Mueller (won Budapest last week) and Anna
with each other - ANNA is said to be JEALOUS because
she never won a Singles Title in 103 attempts but
Martina did it in 22 attempts! VERY NICE BILD to

Special Ranking Rule
Thanx to jojoseph who found this on the wtaworld-board - SPECIAL RANKING RULE from the WTA! Well, this would have applied to Anna if she would have been waiting a few more weeks instead of making her return in San Diego last year (6 months at minimum for this rule). If she would have done so, this rule says that she could have entered up to 8 Tournaments with her ranking she had straight after her last tournament she played before she was off the tour due to injury -> 9th ranked after Paris Indoors in February 2001. She was also awarded with Gold Exempt Status so it would have been possible for her to enter her comeback tournaments with this Special Ranking (=9) and it would have been possible for her to get 1st Round-byes!
Well, it is a bit complicated and really deep rule-analysis! Certainly Anna just wanted to return to play as soon as possible and didn't even think of this opportunity she might have had if she had waited 1,2 weeks longer to start her comeback!

Anna's new Ranking
Anna's new Ranking isn't something to be much happy about - she lost one position in Singles and is now ranked 69th again with 545 points! In Doubles she is still 13th with unchanged 1595 points!
In the Race to the Championships-Rankings Anna slided down in Singles again - from 21 down to 24 with 484 points! In Doubles she also lost one position together with Martina. Both were passed by Hantuchova and are now ranked 5th with 1065 points!

There are still no further news according BOL or Hamburg but after the report from the Bol-Website which I posted yesterday I think that I should finish my rest-hope for Hamburg :-(((((

"Anna Kournikova is coming to BOL" - OH NO
What a bad luck do I have??? - According to THIS report from the BOL-Website their tournament director finally "made it" - "The arrangement was made with her manager"! Right now it seems really that I can throw my ticket for Hamburg into the trashcan - SHIT!!!
This is NOT fair!!!
On the other hand the Hamburg-Website still says that ticket sale at the stadium starts on Tuesday and 50 Posters from Anna are available!!!
I have to calm down to say this - whatever is best for Anna and her progress I am happy about but I was SO enthusiastic about going to Hamburg and NOW THIS!!!! I don't even want to think about that also Berlin might take place without her...! This would be a desaster for me!
Don't get me wrong - I respect Anna's decisions and support whatever is necessary for her to get back to her old good shape. I am not the only one who thinks that Salomon stands behind this decision!
But of course FRUSTRATION will stay because I will miss an opportunity to see Anna LIVE again (since 13.10.2001 I haven't seen her live anymore!) and that is always a HUGE loss. At least chances for Berlin the week after (I also have a ticket for monday) are good.

OH NO!!!! I mean if Anna thinks it would be better to play BOL (Tier III) instead of HAMBURG in 1 1/2 weeks than it's her decision - has Salomon something to do with this?? IS IT TRUE AT ALL??! She just said "I have a tournament in a week and a half" but she didn't say in Charleston WHICH Tournament - BOL or Hamburg???

FULL Post match Interview (Charleston) - sorry Anna / Hamburg Doubles???
I have to say SORRY ANNA - there were times the previous days/weeks when I believed too much of what was written by press - I started to doubt that you are STILL loving Tennis (fucking influencing media)! I will NEVER do this again. After I have read the whole Interview I am happy and phrases like "not a real surprise anymore" (related to her latest loss) won't happen anymore.Only Anna herself knows if her match against Martinez was the best of her latest 4 matches!
All this media-crap (Enrique's 3 tenniscourts, paycut by sponsors etc) must not bother me anymore.
She says that it "feels different in some matches" again and I have to realize that Anna is a total different human being than me. She is a professional tennisplayer with a total different cultural background and much more - I am just a guy with a normal job who admires her and dedicates this website to her.
I am very happy with the following quote:
"I have a tournament in a week and a half, and that gives me ten days or so to prepare, and I'm looking forward to the next tournament." - I WILL BE THERE, ANNA!
Hamburg Doubles???: I read this in the german
PRO7-videotext (TV channel) - Anna is going to
defend her Double!! Well, they say that she won
Doubles in Hamburg last year but we all know that it
was back in 2000 with Natasha Zvereva! It is

Anna contacted Harold Salomon - will he get her new coach??? / Charleston-Match Pics
GREAT NEWS - Anna finally seems to realize that she needs help - according to tennisreports.net she called Harold Salomon (former coach of Jennifer Capriati - he was her coach on her way to her great comeback in the late 90's) 3,4 days before her Charleston-Match on Tuesday. He also was there and watched her playing and afterwards both were on the practise courts!!! Anna: "I know that I'm going to continue working"! Mary Joe Fernandez who formerly was also coached by Salomon has only good words for him and she thinks that he could help Anna a lot.
What does Salomon say: "...would be interesting" (to coach Anna), "She needs to work a little bit on everything", "Anna needs to...take a look at her game and where she wants it to be the next five years", "She definitely has Top 10 potential but that takes a lot of hard work".
More great news: Next week Anna will be practising with Salomon in South Florida! MORE hasn't been confirmed yet but this is very very promising.
Anna, you are on the right way and this makes me very very happy!

Has anybody a clue how SUCH different comments can be made by Anna after a 4th straight 1st Round-defeat??? On the one hand there are similar reports by sportingnews, cnnsi, Excite and ESPN with the following quote made by Anna: "I can't get any more disappointed" and the info that she was back on the practise court a couple of hours after her defeat. On the other hand there is the BBC-report with the following Anna-quotes: "Today was the best match that I played in the last 4 tournaments" and "She's an experienced player on clay. So I'm definitely happy with the progress I've made"!
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SO DIFFERENT QUOTES COME UP????

The facts: This is Anna's 4th straight 1st Round loss, her 5th consecutive loss. Her only 4-game-losing-streak came at her comeback last year when she lost in Leipzig (Myskina), Moscow (Fokina), Filderstadt (Kremer) and Zurich (Coetzer) BUT (and THIS is ridiculous) - all these defeats took 3 sets and her lack of match practise after the long injury layoff explained this losing streak!
BUT NOW??? - Anna isn't injured and she lost her last 4 1st Round-matches not against the world elite players, she lost vs Osterloh, Daniilidou, Suarez and now Martinez! And she lost all 4 matches without winning at least 1 set!!!!!!

I WILL remain a big big fan of her but I am suffering and I deeply hope that she finally realizes that she HAS to change something! Is she already doing something we all don't know about (a coach...)?? I don't think so because why should Anna not tell us if she had a new coach on her side??! I am searching for an EXPLANATION for her obvious lack of confidence - but I don't find any obvious reasons. I don't want to talk about Enrique but if any of these gossip-stories (concert-visits, romantic dinners, 3 tenniscourts,...) are TRUE then PERHAPS Anna's relationship to him distracts her from focussing on Tennis. Everything pure speculation and the whole shit stays the same in the end: All I can keep on doing is to hope that Anna finally realizes that THIS is not the way things can keep on going and that she puts all her focus on rediscovering her old form, the "old good Anna"...

I was totally surprised to see this report today at
12:25 CET on RTL (german TV channel)! They basically
said that Anna is the queen of commercials but
oncourt she didn't achieve anything. NOW her
sponsors reportedly want to end up their contracts
with Anna and Enrique wants to help Anna by
installing 3 courts near his house. He is going to
act in a movie???!
Well, overwhelming pictures from Anna from the Climacool-MakingOf and also a little INTERVIEW about the Climacool-Spot! Without the commentaries and Enrique (shown as "Anna's friend") this would have been an awesome picture-report. But it was just a summary of the gossip from the last weeks!

No Anna today - no Doubles either / Ranking News / wrong tournaments?
Anna doesn't play today - Monday schedule! She won't play Doubles either (Doubles Draw) but I assume that this would be good for her. Well, she has to know and I hope she knows how to get out of her current crises!
Ranking News: At least she moved one position
up in the Singles Ranking and is now 68th but she
gained just 1 point due to her 3rd consecutive 1st
Round-loss which is really deeply frustrating. In
Doubles Anna is still ranked 13th with unchanged
1595 points!
In the Race to the Championships-Ranking Anna's
Downfall starts intensively but this is no wonder
when she loses every match (it makes me so sad but
this is the truth in her last 3 Tournaments
unfortunately) - down to 21st position with 483
points - she lost another 5 positions!!! In Doubles
she and Martina are overtaken by Sanchez-Vicario and
both Anna and Martina are now 4th with 1065 points!

Charleston-Draw: Anna faces Conchita Martinez / long Report
Well, right now every opponent seems to be hard for Anna. She faces Conchita Martinez in the 1st Round and I don't want to look beyond the first round after her latest 3 1st Round-Defeats! Head-to-Head: 3-2 for Conchita but both last played against each other at the Masters 2000 in New York (November 16, 2000) - Quarterfinal and Anna won relatively easy 6:4,6:0! Conchita also lost last week at Amelia Island in Round 3 against Sandrine Testud 7:5,4:6,6:7! Full Draw

Anna's crisis
Well, it is obvious that Anna has not much confidence right now and oncourt she simply doesn't get her game together - she struggles with her strokes, gets nervous and commits much too many unforced errors and double faults. I think Anna is well aware of that but WHAT SHOULD SHE DO??? I have read many many postings in the messageboards, the opinions vary from "Play TierV's,get a coach" to "just a problem in her head, she will get over it"! Now I started a topic on my messageboard about her crisis and I appreciate YOUR opinion, YOUR suggestions for Anna, what she should do NOW!

Anna vs Suarez 4:6,1:6 - what is left to say???
"GO ANNA! I still believe in you" - This was my finishing sentence BEFORE the match. Now I have to ask "What the hell is going on Anna?"! The Stats: Annas 4th consecutive loss and 3rd straight 1st Round-Loss! The 1st set was at least a little bit "equal" and took 42 minutes but in the 2nd Anna was broken twice and quickly Paolo was leading 5-0! Anna double faulted 7 times and delivered an incredible amount of 36 unforced errors. One of her MAIN weaknesses (right now she really doesn't seem to have any good aspect in her whole game) - winning breakpoints. Her percentage is 22% compared to 55% from Suarez! "I LOST ALL MY EXPERIENCE BEING ON A COURT AND PLAYING A MATCH" - this is what Anna said towards her long 2001 injury layoff time.
"The whole 2nd set was pretty much about me being disappointed about the 1st set" - Well Anna. Should you consider playing QUALIFYING in upcoming tournaments instead of entering every main draw with a wildcard just to gain MATCH PRACTISE??? I don't know. Where's the FIGHTING SPIRIT gone to which she showed for example in Tokyo02-Semifinal against Seles???

Anna vs Suarez tomorrow / Rankings downfall
Anna faces Paola Suarez in the 1st round but both aren't scheduled to play today, so they will face each other tomorrow. Anna, find back your rhythm and beat her!!
Rankings downfall: The first week without Anna playing any tournament in 2002 is over and her Rankings went down again - in Singles she lost 3 positions and is now ranked 69th with the same amount of points like last week! In Doubles she remains 13th ranked with unchanged 1595 points! This is frustrating to see that Annas Singles Ranking doesn't get better although she has no points to defeat from last year. She has to find her form again!!
In the Race to the Championships-Rankings Anna is now ranked 16th in Singles (lost 3 positions) with unchanged 482 points and still 3rd in Doubles together with Martina Hingis and 1065 points!

Amelia Island - Draw: Anna vs Suarez in Round 1
The Main Draw for Amelia Island has been released - Anna faces Paola Suarez in the 1st Round! Well, it could have been worse but hopefully Anna plays better than in her last 2 matches and if so - she has ALL the chances to beat Paolo in 2 sets although Suarez is a good clay court player! Both only met once and ironically also in Amelia Island: April 15, 2000 in the Quarterfinal - Anna unfortunately lost 6:2,2:6,4:6 although she was already leading in the 2nd set after she won the 1st set! Unfortunately bad news - despite the fact that Anna doesn't have to defend ANY points from last year her Singles Ranking went down 1 position from 65 to 66 from April 1 to 7, 2002! The reason is obvious - 2 Defeats in Round 1 of the 5th and 6th biggest tournament of the year - just 1 point in total in each tournament. In Doubles Anna stays No.13 with 1595 points!
Race to Championships: Anna dropped down one rank and is now 13th in Singles with 482 points so far this year. In Doubles she is still ranked 3rd with 1065 points!
Hopefully hopefully Anna gets her game together again SOON. She still has one week off before she will be playing Amelia Island (start at April 8, 2002)!
